Rumors say UWW is into some revolutionary changes , if their board approves this we wlil have 3 major changes

1. Increasing the number of weights per style to 10. still only 6 will be at the Olympics.

2. 2 day tournaments, means semis and finals will be held on the second day

3. Same day weigh-in !

Specially the 3rd is a big big change, at the moment we have weight-in one day before the competition, which let wrestlers to cut huge weights. for example wrestlers at 65kg category are usually 70kg or more in the competition day.

Iran will host the freestyle World Cup in two weeks, the best 8 teams from the 2016 Olympics including USA were invited to the event. but since dumbass Trump banned Iranians from entering the USA, Iran did the same. in past few days we were expecting them to make an exception for the US wrestling team but surprisingly today they said NO and US team can't enter Iran ! :(

this is really disappointing, I won't surprise if UWW cancels the tournament since there is no time left to change the host.

Just came to this thread to post the exact same thing..

I was reading the Iranian wrestling federation had been trying a lot to get the politicians to allow the Americans to compete? I wish the politicians had some balls and would just say "Look, Trump's an asshole, but we're not going to lower ourselves to his standards, so everyone is welcome!"..

Yes I was expecting the same, at least based on previous news. American wrestlers are usually quite popular here and always welcomed , I'm sure even our wrestling federation didn't expect such answer from the government but apparently since yesterday they will go as "an eye for an eye" policy against Trump. yesterday USA announced Iran Archery team can't go there for the World Cup in USA (they already had their visa) on 10 February. they are saying "we didn't start this, they did"

To update on this: the Iranian foreign ministry has now (well, last week) said American wrestlers are welcome again, right? That's good news :)

    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
    • badminton queen Carolina Marin announced that she can't take part into the home Europeans in the upcoming weeks because of her injured knee and calls it a career 😭
    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
    • First big meet ofthe Outdoor Tour is the Maury Plant from Melbourne tomorrow morning.  Good few people from Poland last weekend have made the long plane trip to Oz.   https://worldathletics.org/competitions/world-athletics-continental-tour/news/world-olympic-stars-maurie-plant-melbourne
