So, the second rehearsals were today for almost everyone in the first 1/2. I reckon i'd give my humble opinion on the staging and qualifiers at this point. Things are really closer and there seem to be more borderline qualifiers than usual, because of the weak year. Also it doesn't help that some countries with popular studio songs messed up the staging (Belgium, Azerbaijan) , while others made the opposite (Finland, Latvia, Moldova). The juries would play a big factor like always (yawn), but i'm not counting there part as much in my ranking.

Certain qualifiers:

Sweden - A perfect Sweden ESC 1.0 song, slick, polished, probably is going to win this 1/2, even from the opening position;

Finland - Great staging and in an awesome position in the running order. After the trainwrecks and unmemorable songs before it, it will easily stand out;

Greece - An upbeat song with a popular artist (it seems?) around many ballads. A classic Greece entry, like we have seen in the past, and because of that it would get a lot of voted, even if the juries vote it lower. Can't see Greece failing for a second year in-a-row;

Poland - Great song & performance, with a nice staging. Certanly better than the other ballads. Plus big diaspora, it will go through.

Borderline qualifiers (from most to least likely):

Azerbaijan - A weird staging, that isn't coming so good on TV for now. Don't know if it will resonate so good with the audience, as the song should have prior to the contest. It was one of the most liked from a studio version.

Portugal - This song, i don't know what to say about it. It is so unique and nothing we see hardly at all. The comments are in the two opposites all the time when it comes to it. If it resonates with the audience it could do miracles (certanly the bookies think this way), but it could just as much be ignored and not understanded. The juries would likely push it through, because it will be in their top almost certanly.

Moldova - Memorable and fun staging, for a fun song, surrounded by ballads. It will stand-out for the good and i hope it qualifies, no matter how much the juries dish on it. The final needs epic Sax guy. :)

Australia - This shouldn't qualify, because it is the blandness of the blandness stuff. I hope the novelty of voting for Australia goes away and it being in the beginning tips things for it to stay in the 1/2. Again juries would be decider probably, because EBU need big country Australia in the final;

Albania - I wouldn't actually mind if this qualified. The song has grown on me and the staging looks intersting. I hope it stand-outs coming after Georgia and Australia and before Belgium and Montenegro. Definately deserves more to qualify than Australia.

Likely no chance:

Belgium - How? Why? Has everyone been high when coming up with the staging. Everything is a trainwreck. It will be a miracle if this qualifies and only if enough people liked the studio version and closed their eyes on the live performance.

Cyprus - So bland and unmemorable, plus it is almost a copycat staging like Belgium 2015, with a worse song. It will get lost.

Iceland - If they didn't qualify last year, with a far more better song, then this has no chance..

Georgia - Good singer, but the song is boring, the staging is boring, being second in the order is a curse and it will be scraping for viewer votes. Even if the juries actually throw a few votes towards Georgia it would hardly be enough.

Montenegro - No, just no.. Though i'd give it that i at least smile for the lolz :d

Czechia - Even with Montenegro in here, there is another song heading for that last place. It's just 3 dull and empty minutes. I'm sorry for the singer, because she is not bad and tries her best, but everything is bad, everything...

The last three countries that didn't rehearse today and didn't watch the TV version of their performance.

Armenia - Seems like a popular song, with just enough staging to go through. Seems there is enthusiasm for it and being in the end of the order will definately help it. Likely qualifier.

Latvia - For me, a very fun song, with a memorable staging, that will help it a lot in this sea of blandness. Closing the 1/2 is a huge advantage, like with Armenia. Likely qualifier.

Slovenia - Maybe the song that was least expected from this year, but the first rehearsal seemed good. Omar is a great singer, unlike many others and this could be a surpise if things go it's way. Again being in the end, could give it a nice chance. Borderline.

About bolding sentences:

I hope we will qualify to final, maybe final juries will like Polish song, but nothing isn't sure as almost all countries where we have big diaspora are in second semifinal or will vote there. From this semifinal we can count for points from diaspora only from Sweden, Belgium and automatic finalists which will voting in this semifinal (Italy and UK). Kasia must do something with her hairs and have better make-up, also should keep dress from second rehearsal, this one from first rehearsal was bad.

About Australia, yes, I don't like this song from beginning, you can see this in all my videos which I published here :d Bad song, bad staging, it should stay in semifinal and hopefully juries will not moved Australia to final, their spot in final could take Georgia which is good song and decent staging for me.

Latvia had their second rehearsal today and what I can say, some people can like this song, some can hate, I'm among this which don't like this :d But as you wrote, this thing that Latvia will perform as last can save them.

From second semifinal I'm the most impressed by Austrian performance, just like in last year, I don't like their song very much and then was one of my favourites, Nathan staging is very good and he really deserve to be in final.

Also I hope that we will see both Valentina San Marino and Israel in the final :p

At the moment, for me everything is like this.

1. Portugal

2. Finland

3. Azerbaijan

4. Australia

5. Albania

6. Armenia

7. Czech Republic (For the love of everything good in this world, change your awful clothes)

After that I have Sweden, Belgium, Poland and Latvia from 7-11

2nd semi

1. Austria

2. The Netherlands

3. Norway

4. Belarus

5. Bulgaria

6. Lithuania

7. Denmark

8. Ireland

9. Hungary

Everyone else I don't care about, but I guess Malta or Croatia would take the last spot from me.

1st semi flops:

Belgium (everything looks very bad, I'm just very attached to the song, so I can only hope things will get better during the live, though it's highly unlikely.)

Montenegro (the worst song of the year additionally claimed the worst performance)

2nd semi flops:

Serbia (Well, this is the biggest let down. The vocalist is struggling to sing like the studio version, just like Azerbaijan last year. The back vocals are completely out of tune as well, because the chords that they picked are bad and if it'll sound like 1st/2nd rehearsals it will be awful and possibly the worst performance of the night)

Macedonia (I pretty much expected that she wouldn't do well, so it doesn't surprise me in the slightest)

Romania (they didn't really flop, but I just hate the concept and it's too ridiculous for me)

First Rehearsal of :ITA from the official ESC channel

Second Rehearsal from an unofficial channel

The Italian act has: a joyful song, a capable dancer, a perfect singer and a good-looking guy, what do you want more? :)

Second 1500 ever for her, first was in Inzell a few weeks back (2'07) with what seemed like very good conditions.   It means a lot of room for improvement and a good sign for the 3000 which is her real strong event at the moment - she lacks basic speed but had one of the fastest final laps today, 10th over Div A and B. Faster last than penultimate lap must be quite unusual too.

    • The same thing happened after Turin 2006. That hall later was never used for skating competitions again, only the Indoor ECH in athletics was organized there once in 2009 and that was it. After that it was only used for commercial fairs etc. It will be the same with Milan. Regarding the indoor arena in Collalbo, it was a great idea to make it an Italian center of skating sports for many years: good location, high altitude, tourist town. Well, but according to the organizers, it`s not worth doing it, but why? Why is`t not worth doing anything here but Germany has a similar track in Inzell and it is possible there? They should hire a good manager who will develop a plan for them to make it worth doing. The same is with the bobsleigh track in Cortina. It was also not worth renovating it and if Salvini's and other big politics and determination hadn`t come into it, the competition would probably have been in Austria or St. Moritz.   The cooperation with the Netherlands is probably only supposed to concern short track. Besides, this cooperation will not do anything if we don`t have at least one indoor track for training in the summer and early autumn. The Dutch Federation isn`t a charity and will not build us infrastructure for free so that we can train on it. There are no miracles. It`s probably more about taking advantage of the opportunity to train with someone like Fontana, who is a legend in short track. After 2026 this cooperation will end, when she leaves.
    • For Ghiotto to win 2 golds at the Olympics, he would have to be the second van der Poel or Sablikova in they pick of form. You have to be a genius to beat this whole coalition of Norwegians, Dutchmen etc. However, I don't see that much talent in him. I'd like to be wrong, but I'm afraid that he'll end up with some silver-bronze in the 10 km and that's it. If he starts losing to Eitrem now, who is 22 years old, it won't bode well for the future, and there's also Roest + maybe another Dutchman will jump out. Generally, our team is poorly prepared for this season and it's not like Ghiotto is on individual training on the moon and has just come down to earth and will now win everything while the rest of the team are in terrible form. Of course, the lack of form of Bosa or Trentini means e.g. 20th place, not 10th, but for Ghiotto it could mean 4/5 place, instead of 1st. It's the same with the team. For today, the only positive performance for us is Lollobrigida's 2nd place in the b category of the women's 1500 meters and Fontana's solid performance in the same event. The rest is terrible.
