Prediction Contest

Rules: The game is simple. Every day, I'll post a few questions in the opening post of each thread and if you're playing, you post your answers to the questions below. Whoever gets the most questions right at the end of the Olympics wins. You can change your answers as many times as you like as long as the first event hasn't begun and you can join anytime.

1. Snowboarding: Will any Canadians reach the quarterfinals in either the men's or women's PGS?

2. Cross-Country Skiing: Which Canadian will finish with the highest placement? (Antoine Cyr, Xavier McKeever, Remi Drolet, Maximillian Hollmann)

3. Curling: How many wins will Canada earn today?

Standings:

1. Topicmaster1010 - 4

2. BenAffleckIsAnOkactor, intoronto, james89, Josh, orangeman, Safe Dragonfly, SGAxJamal, Surlympics - 3

3. CanadaWolvesFC - 1

Hope you guys have been enjoying the prediction contest so far!

Just curious if there's anything you guys want to see added or changed for future days?

So for example, do you want some questions about international athletes or should we just stick to the Canadians?

I'm really enjoying the prediction contest: thank you for organizing it @Topicmaster1010

I personally would prefer if it jsut stuck with Canadian results since those are the ones I pay the most attention too.

One thing that I would like to see added, and only if it isn't too much trouble, are the answers from the previous day. :)

In terms of medals for Day 2, I don’t see Canada adding any to our tally. I think that our best bets are:

⛸️Speed skating - Men’s 5,000m (Ted Jan Bloemen)

🏂Snowboarding - Men’s parallel giant slalom (Arnaud Gaudet)

💃🏼Figure Skating - Team Event

These all feel like long shots. Ted has not been up to form this season, and hasn’t been on the podium (please correct me if I’m wrong on that). But, he’s in the last pairing, and was on the CBC prediction list for a bronze medal.

Arnaud could build on the WC silver he just won. The figure skating team is probably our best hope for a podium fishing, but would require perfect programs from the team and possibly slip-ups from Italy and Georgia.

And I am WAY too nervous to watch curling after today… 🫣

Bloemen does have one podium this season at the Calgary World Cup where he skated 6:02 so if he's on, he will challenge for the medals but the field is so competitive that it's still a long shot. Not to mention that he finished 16th at the last world cup stop.

I think the women's PGS is also an outside chance. Buck has a world cup silver this year and Moisan has had a few top 8 finishes.

Maybe I'm being optimistic but I think our chances at a medal in the figure skating team event are higher than all of us thinks it is? But we'll see how it goes.

Also I know this isn't gonna last but hey it's fun seeing the US getting blanked off the medal table and us getting a medal before them >:)

That there is a chance of a team event medal at all, is better than I thought we'd do.

But we're down two points, and likely gonna drop another 1-3 in the pairs... so we'd be down 3-5, and Italy would have the tiebreaker... and with Malinin skating for the US, that basically sews up 1st and 2nd in both mens and womens for US and Japan... so our only hope is to be within 3, and to finish 3rd in both mens and womens (which might get us even in the tiebreaker, so maybe within 4) and hope Italy finished 5th in both, which seems particularly unlikely on the women's side

So yeah, thinking that thru, we're kinda hooped. We really needed Gilles and Poirier to have done the Free Dance and beat the Italians. That two point swing would have really opened up possibilities. As is, I think we'd need Italy to bomb in the pairs... and, well, the other two too

My bets for Day 2:

1. Yes

2. McKeever

3. 2

I prefer staying Canadian-centric. I do agree though, maybe post the answers if it's not too much trouble.

I am more than sure Canada will win both matches tomorrow, and then drop the last one against the Swiss on Monday to miss the playoffs. It has to happen in the most heartbreaking way. Kind of like Beijing when they just needed a win against Australia in their last match and blew it.

For figure skating, Canada has to finish above the Italians in 2 of the remaining 3 events. I just don't see it, especially against the home country. If Gogolev goes out of his mind again, we need the Georgian skater to finish between him and the Italian. Then we would need another higher placement in either pairs or ladies. Anything is possible, though.

Pretty slow day for Canada all around, tbh. Which sucks since it's Sunday. Monday looks more busy.
