according to the Olympic website, both the winners of 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 seasons will earn direct berths to the Olympic Games in LA

That would be another event qualifying more than two years before the start of the Olympics.

but in field hockey you almost don't even need qualifiers...there are always the same teams 😈😬🤦

This method could make a difference for some teams like Uruguay/Chile (women's) given USA is qualified.

Depends on how FIH gives priority. In the past the continental qualifiers have always been the highest priority (even higher than the host quota) so they could do that again, even if chronologically these events occur earlier.

 

Still it would be nice to see debut nations in a sport where it is difficult for new nations to qualify (outside of host nations)

They seem to have changed the priority now, USA women qualified for next year's world cup despite finishing 2nd in the continental. We'll see for the olympic tournament.
