Great 6th place for Gismondi :yes Beating almost all Norwegians and some of the Swedes is a superb performance.

Franchi had a similarly impressive performance at the 2023 World Championships on the same distance but later she completly missing. I hope that with Gismondi will be different, especially since she was already a great talent in her junior years. The problem in Italy is that for the past 15 years, aside from Pellegrino, there has been a miss of stability in other athletes: there are some booms of excellent form, but later they disappear. I also worry that funding for cross-country skiing will be cut after the Cortina Olympics.

And remember the Olympic Paradox - it is slightly easier to get a medal at the Olympics than at a World Cup because in the Olympics the numbers of racers from the powerful nations are capped at 4.

The best athletes will all be there anyway – it's easier to get a spot in the top 10-15. Only the great champions were ahead of Gismondi today.

Even if we ignore the political background, the war and past doping scandals, have these athletes really been tested under the same conditions as other athletes?

Right now russians themselves metioned that they have 2 main options for women`s quota:

- Peklecova will was not included into the international doping testing pool (RUSADA is still incompliant after that scandal)

- D.Nepryaeva had training camps at the occupied territories - it is the best way to avoid of the international doping testing at all

P.S. Little detail - according to Vaelbe 90% of russian skiera are contracted with russian army or other security services.

FIS received an amended decision from CAS about the implementation of the AIN program at FIS events.

The CAS amended decision specifies that:

FIS is ordered to allow AIN's participation in all FIS events, and not only in qualification events for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

Therefore, AIN will allow to compete in TDS, T4T (if will eligibility athletes) and rest WC stages after OG and even in WJC (according to new IOC decision, what status? but out of topic here).

And now it's important question - how will be calculating quota rules for them? They still can not to participate in team events, AIN's athletes during the time will be more and more and even if they will not pass IOC's screening, they still will have rights to participate in FIS events...

She will almost certainly make it tomorrow, but as for today :MKD Cvetanovska missed Olympic qualification by 0,29 seconds in the sprint in Davos.

But, again, tomorrow in the 10k it is a lot easier to score good points and she will almost certainly make it. :RUS (or whatever icon is used) made it easily, as expected, :BIH and :MDA will likely be added tomorrow as well. Tiny chance for :CHI, who knows. For her I hope so of course, personally every country that doesn't make it is a win, but yeah.

    • In Italy, it's generally impossible to watch it anywhere except on pay TV on our federation's website, which is of terrible quality: there's no clock, only the score. The 2026 Olympics were an exception, with women's hockey being on free-to-air television. Most people in southern Italy probably don't even know that women's hockey exists
    • In 2024, Italy beat Slovakia 3-2 at the World Champ Division I B, but objectively, we were two level under you in that time and now we're at a similar level. Italy won here surprisingly easily – it was even 6-2 on begining of 3 period, but Slovakia showed strength in the matches against Hungary and Norway. On paper, I think Hungary is still the best here, so you have a good chance against France – even a 2-point win is probably enough for you. Regarding Italy, in 2022/23, we even lost to Poland and Slovenia, so we've made significant progress. Now it's crucial to continue this project and avoid something like China. Italy always needs support from North America, but we also have good local players – for example, our leading striker: Mathilde Fantin, is a born in Italy- Cuneo.
    • Thanks. We´ll see. If it has to happen it will. It it does not have to happen yet, it will not... yet.   Our woman´s program is working a couple of years now with a group of girls since their early teenage years, through Youth Winter Olympics and EYOFs and several team meetings, the core of the group is still around late teen and early twentys. Also it is obviously build around Nela Lopušanová who is still 18 years old.   The goal was set for the Olympics, maybe 2030 will be too soon but the program is showing every year bigger results and is still not over, we hopw by 2034 being a competitive team at the Olympics.   For the worlds we also are trying step by step, so even if not tomorrow this group of girls will certainly qualify to the elite in the upcoming time and the goal is obviously to be able to stay there as well once our time will arrive.
    • Italy's expectations were probably too high – we were newcomers here. Our performance at the Olympics was up our capabilities, in my opinion. Now it's crucial to continue this project and hire a good coach who will work seriously for all time, not just for the Olympics, like Bouchard.
