Sidenote: Didn't realize Bloemen was 39. 

Surprising indeed, but at 19 Loubineaud was still three years away from recording his first races on ice.

Well this has really scrambled up how I think the Olympics are gonna go. Probably the biggest surprise of the winter sports season so far.

Goes to show, it's just ridiculous to say this or that athlete is basically sure to win a medal/gold when the season barely even started yet  

 

I remember someone saying last season there was basically no way Ghiotto would NOT win the 10k in the Olympics. I mean. Come on.

Something something ice is slippery. Sven Kramer was a sure thing to win gold in the 10k in Vancouver, after all.
