Summer joined the sub 8:10 club in the 800 free! Would love to see a showdown with Ledecky in Singapore.

:SWE Sarah Sjöström is pregnant and will take a break from swimming. But her big goal is still to participate in LA 2028.

Summer McIntosh did an interciew with our network, CBC. She says she'll swim 5 events at the upcoming world championships.

She also said that this will be the last year she trains at her current base with the Sarasota sharks. She's eying training with Bob Bowman who is currently Leon Marchands current coach.

Bulgarian swimming has been on the rise for the past couple of years and we certainly have our best period, since the 80s. But as with most things in :BUL , a lot of good can't be without some bad to compliment it...

First Antani Ivanov, who is having a 3 year ban for missing tests (and who is a real moron and i am happy he hits the road) got busted and started feuding with practically everyone and is never at fault for anything. Last year he said he was retiring and getting away from swimming, but recently made the news sites (for more attention) saying, when his ban ends in spring 2026 he is going to start competing for a new country. But like i said, good riddance.

But more importantly, today one of our brightest swimmers Josif Miladinov shockingly announced his retirement at 21.. This comes out of the blue without much explanation. He made the 100 m butterfly finals at the Tokyo Olympics and the Doha WCH last year, had won a Silver & Bronze at the Euro.

There seems to be no conflict between him and the Federation and he just mentioned in his post, that he wants a new path in his life... Don't know if he is burned out from all the trainings and regimes from a young child or there are some other reasons that are being kept secret, but it's a big blow for this sport here.

Regarding Josif Miladinov case I am not extremely surprised. He is living in Switzerland and does not train with bulgarian team during last couple of years. From his last interviews I only saw lack of any motivation and desire to keep developing his results. He seemed not devoted to the sport and was missing a lot of events due to injuries which was apparently not the only reason. Swimming is really on the rise during last couple of years in Bulgaria but there is some problems too. This year a big olympic size swimming pool was opened in Plovdiv which is super news for the sport in the country. Hopefully further pools will be build in near future, also in small towns.

Two notable swims from today. First :AUS Kyle Chalmers put up a time of 47.27 in the 100m freestyle at the Bergen Swim Festival.

However, he was outdone later in the day by :USA Luca Urlando who put up a 200m butterfly time of 1:52.37 at the Pro Swim Series :yikes:. That ranks him as the 4th fastest performer of all time and the 14th fastest performance of all time.

Meanwhile, there is apparently a swimmer named Autumn McIntosh

Ward, McIntosh Lead Group Of Fast Swimmers At Missouri Valley Age Group Championships

Now we just need a Spring McIntosh and a Winter McIntosh to complete the full set.

    • Probably 0% but in 1939 Germans reached the outskirts of Warsaw after only eight days (the border was more to the east than it is now i.e. they had less ground to cover). The ugly truth is NATO would most likely bide their time in response so the entire eastern Poland would be a battle field for a while.
    • What was the Italian conflict? I can't quite remember.
    • And is there any chance that the Polish president would have escape within the first 2-3 days of war? Probably 0%. In 1939, the authorities escaped, but after an attack from 2 sides, the first being the German attack.
    • Hmm, and were they wanted to capture Kyiv in three days? Since middle of 2022, their run has been slow, so I don't think they'll be using any rapid maneuvers on the future. They surprised Ukraine at the very beginning on the war and were close to success. Zelenskyy only needed to flee the country in the first 2 or 3 days of the war. And Russia could have counted on this happening, because Zelenskyy wasn't an experienced politician or soldier and could have do however they wanted. In my opinion, Zelensky's role in Putin's plan ruined everything for them- he, as a populist and inexperienced man, was to escape from Kiev in the first few days of the war. Then Russia would have put in one of its own- Yanukovych? and Europe and the USA would probably have approved that.
    • Fortifications could only work for illegal immigrants but not against drones. We're wasting missiles worth millions of euro to shoot down drones worth 10k. It's anyone's guess how quickly Russians would reach Vistula River if the invasion came from two sides (Kaliningrad & Belarus). It would be days and not weeks...
    • Shocking news 😔 We just saw him competing 2 days ago in Annecy.
    • Yes, and Ukraine is very important to Putin- far more important than the Baltic states, Georgia or even Poland. Without Ukraine, the restoration of the former USSR will be impossible for Putin. Another thing is that with pro-Russian Ukraine, Poland will have its entire eastern and northern border (Kaliningrad) with unfriendly countries except Lithuania, so it will basically have to militaries the all entire eastern part of Poland and build various fortifications there.
    • After all, it's one thing to dislike someone, even to destroy something (if it remains a rumor, which it usually is), and quite another to steal money... In the Italian national team there was the Wierer vs. Vittozzi conflict, in the polish team in Sochi 2014 there were accusations of various strange things: destroying a skies, rifle, etc., but theft is a serious crime, not just some rumors.
    • Stalin got Karelian Peninsula and Viborg and that was enough. Land invasion from Finland made no sense 60 yrs ago and makes even less sense in 2020s.   Finland isn't that important strategically even when it comes to Baltic Sea. U need to control Danish straits to control the Baltic. Warsaw Pact had an invasion plan of Denmark for this one reason.    Likewise Mediterranean Sea was no priority for Stalin. SU wasn't a naval power back in the day.
