Sailing Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to learn more about unfamiliar-to-me sports, specifically about how the Olympic athletes compete in the off season.  I'm learning about the Sailing Grand Slam, which is actually finishing up this weekend with Dutch Water Week (which isn't even on the calendar here).  Five regattas throughout the year.

https://www.sailinggrandslam.com/

Intrigued to try and follow it more in 2026.

Anyone else follow sailing at all?

"only" 4th place for the 2024 Olympic Champion, :ITA Marta Maggetti in the women's division, where :ITA Medea Falcioni was 7th overall (and Silver in the U-23 ranking) at just 15 years of age :yikes:

meanwhile, very disappointing 19th place for Nicolò Renna, our supposed leader (multiple world medallist, here only 5th among the Italian surfers) in the men's division

the only good news from the men's competition is the U-23 gold by Leonardo Tomasini (7th overall)

Not liking this compression score idea...

You are basically punishing someone for being too good.

Kite/windsurfing is okay...

On top of everything else it feels needlessly complicated.

have you followed the last Kite/Nacra worlds?

trust me, this format is not OK in any case, it's unfair to the best sailors and it adds absolutely nothing to the show

actually, the medal race of the Nacra class was transformed into a match race between :ITA and :GBR decided only by the start, because they were too good for the rest of the field and those medal races are also too short, 10 mins at max

when the TV broadcasters make any request on the competition format, you can be sure that it will only damage the sport and won't help neither the show and the space they will give to sailing in their schedule

    • I have reported this again and they said it should be fixed now, please let me know if you are still facing issues.
    • more countries added to the list of US ban    you can't travel to USA if you are from : burkina faso , niger , Laos , South sudan , mali , sierra leon ...
    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
