I'd make the comparison between rugby union and sevens, but even more different.

 

Some NFL players would probably be good at flag football, but the skill set is different.

A big question mark is... how good are flag football players at flag football, exactly? It isn't a very well developed sport at the elite level (it's extremely popular as a recreational sport). It is possible that NFL QBs, Safeties and Wide Receivers have skills that don't translate super well to flag while still being better than the existing crop of elite flag players.

Yeah, the raw talent of those players may be enough to outweigh the nuance skills and strategy for flag football. I guess we'll see how a team like Nigeria will perform. American Samoa might be a team to watch, but Australia is also a good team and with six spots available they may not be able to squeeze in.

 

 

 

Interestingly enough, even though the NFL has agreed to release their players there's a restriction of one American and one international player per team. I wonder if that will cause some competition (particular for the international roster spot).

Can’t say I’m a big fan of flag football even being at the Olympics… but having NFL players on the team just ruins it even more (and that’s not to mention half of the other changes that I hate) 

 

I’d rather have seen karate back or ultimate, but at least it’s not as bad as breaking…

Interesting. If the NFL players turn out to actually be better at it due to their experience and such, this seems like a good move. I'd say it is only logical to want the best possible players and competitors in any sport at the Olympics, otherwise we're just looking at people fighting for the gold medal while knowing it's kind of a B-level competition.

To play devil’s advocate, if the NFL players turn out to make a big impact it’ll make for a cakewalk of a run to the Olympic gold with all of the matches being 100-0 (exaggerating but still) because 95% of the NFL is American  

 

Sure it might make Canada’s team better, as the country with the second highest number of NFLers, but as an avid NFL watcher, yeah nope I’d rather have not seen them take part. Complete joke.
