Baseball Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

Recommended Posts

The Premier12 quotas have 1 for Asia and 1 for Europe/Oceania

Then there's a final tournament where a non-Pan American team will qualify.

Honestly this is probably the most fair distribution given the strength of baseball around the world and the fact it's a 6-team tournament.

The mistake started when they decided to do, again, a 6-team competition. Now, they are just trying to administrate it haha.

The 6 teams is very disappointing, but I think there would be no chance the MLB would allow players is the competition took the entire length of the Olympics. Giving players one week off is manageable, two weeks is near impossible from the MLB perspective.

IOC probably had to decide between having 8-12 teams w/o MLB players or 6 teams with possibly having MLB players.

I mean you don't need 2 weeks for a 12 team tournament. The 20-team WBC is already 13 days and they are stretching the final stages. You can probably get away doing it in 9-10 days, including rain contingency.

The WBC has 4 venues. LA has one.

4 groups of 3 teams

3 games in each group.

Group winners to semi-finals.

Medallists would play 5 games.

Add 3 reserve days for the weather. Average is less than a day of rain in LA in July

All over in 8 days.

I think the 6-team restriction is to include many new things (lacrosse, flag football, etc...) in the olympics. IOC would not want to expand the total number of players by having too much team in here.

Yeah all the new team sports have 6 teams. Squash only will have 16 entries per gender. I think they could've made an exception for baseball though. It's super popular in America. Venue should be packed for a lot of the games, especially for USA and other American nations.

I think it's a miss by the IOC to not have 10-12 teams to ensure that Mexico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and more American nations have a good chance to get in. Those nations have a large population in LA and would fill the venue.

American Qualification for 28 olympic seems to be given to SF qualified team in America

A2 vs B1(probably US, who is not related to this qualification process) .. A2 is difficult to be in SF

A1 vs B2 seems likely to be Puerto Rico vs Mexico . So the winner would go to SF and win the ticekt

Japan vs Venezuela(?) : I think Venezuela also have high chances to win, but the Japan would be >50% in SF.

DR(?) vs Korea : DR could be also the winner (maybe >90%).

This Means that DR and PRorMexico(?) would have the highest chance to be in olympics.

I think they can find at least one more venue in the United States.

LA has one venue because that is all they need for a 6-team tournament.
