Baseball Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

Recommended Posts

The Premier12 quotas have 1 for Asia and 1 for Europe/Oceania

Then there's a final tournament where a non-Pan American team will qualify.

Honestly this is probably the most fair distribution given the strength of baseball around the world and the fact it's a 6-team tournament.

The mistake started when they decided to do, again, a 6-team competition. Now, they are just trying to administrate it haha.

The 6 teams is very disappointing, but I think there would be no chance the MLB would allow players is the competition took the entire length of the Olympics. Giving players one week off is manageable, two weeks is near impossible from the MLB perspective.

IOC probably had to decide between having 8-12 teams w/o MLB players or 6 teams with possibly having MLB players.

I mean you don't need 2 weeks for a 12 team tournament. The 20-team WBC is already 13 days and they are stretching the final stages. You can probably get away doing it in 9-10 days, including rain contingency.

The WBC has 4 venues. LA has one.

4 groups of 3 teams

3 games in each group.

Group winners to semi-finals.

Medallists would play 5 games.

Add 3 reserve days for the weather. Average is less than a day of rain in LA in July

All over in 8 days.
