Both Strachan and Long have a small q.

Strachan looked injured at the end of the race, I don't know if she can run anyway

Pretty good split for each of the regions.

United States - 8G - 1S - 3B

Americas - 6G - 10S - 7B

Europe - 6G - 9S - 7B

Africa - 6G - 5S - 5B

Asia/Oceania - 2G - 3S - 6B

United States by itself remains on top while the rest of the Americas are edging Europe by 1 silver. Africa is keeping pace for golds, but ultimately won't keep up with total medals.

Absolutely. But we have to note that a number of their top athletes have been caught doping too

Yes, in the region.

It is a huge city with more than a million inhabitants. A nuclear reactor is situated there. But it does not stop russians from bombing the city which they cannot capture - just destroy.

It is a big center of sports in Ukraine - especially ice sports, athletics, artistic swimming.
A big number of inhabitants in combination with sport objects created space for sport selections and search for young talents.

But now... A lot was bombed. Children have to study in the underground schools. So a lot of people are trying to send children away.
A lot of them are in Europe. And our coaches say that at the torunaments abroad a local colleagues thank them for young talanted Ukrainian athletes.

It is not a big deal in football where they still can represent Ukraine. But in gymnastics and athletics they will be naturalized mostly. You see - there is no new generation of Ukrainian athletes at this World Championship.

Tomorrow last chance for medal to Ukraine? Mahuchikh? Levchenko with no chance?

Don't know much about it, but my father travelled the world with his work, and he said that Venezuela was the best place he'd ever been.  That was 50s-70s.  It's a hellhole now.

Back to the WC - rain forecast for this evening.  And in Japan rain means rain, none of your pathetic Scottish/Irish imitations.

The 1950s and 1960s were their golden age - oil and gas deposits were discovered there, making them the richest country in South America, but they became too dependent on this and the economy was unstable. Adding to this was a hopeless political class- thievery, corruption, stupidity another presidents/governments, etc. However, even in they best of times, it was a country where a small elite grew wealthy while the remaining majority remained poor. Over the next decades and the economic colapssed, this phenomenon only deepened. Thanks to this, the left-wing populist Chávez came to power in 1998, gaining significant support among this poor segment of the population. The situation stabilized for a some times, but the introduction of Cuba- socialist model was not to be a long-term success. After Chávez's death in 2012, his former driver- Maduro, came to power, who, unlike like his mentor, finished game with the elections, dissolved parliament and began ruling by decree. This situation is similar to this day. This is what I know from the media and the internet. But of course I don't live there and I don't know everything, and there's probably no one here from Venezuela who could tell us more about it (Brazil, Argentina, etc, are different countries).

    • Hey guys, I contribute Skeleton articles for a new winter-sports focused website called "All things Snow".   I was wondering if any of you could please spare a few moments to read my latest article on the World Cup finale in Altenberg a few weeks ago.   Any feedback on length, content, or just general tips will be greatly appreciated. I'll be sure to implement them in my Olympic Skeleton recap pieces. Thanks!   https://allthingssnow.net/2026/01/19/pfeifer-and-wyatt-win-the-finale-meylemans-and-weston-seal-crystal-globes/

    • changes that go absolutely against the Italians (notoriously the top swimmers and not the best shooters in MP) 😭😭😭   now it's really time to axe MP from the Games 😈🥳
    • I think there was a feeling before the obstacle course was introduced that really, really solid endurance runners were starting to dominate - in Triathlon you might call it the Alex Yee conundrum. Personally, I don't mind at all if the 'martial' elements are reemphasised as that is the real 'soul' of the sport - Triathlon, Marathon and Road cycing are there for genuine endurace, MP is in some senses a 'soldiery' test - one reason I thought Judo might have been a better addition than the obstacle course. But placing a higher emphasis on the fight bits over the flight bits seems a legitimate idea - though it should also increase the X-country nature of the run so that the test of a fresh shooter at the beginning is rather different from the test of a knackered one at the end. I quite like the artificial hill in rio.
