I think she’ll get top 6, but no podium. With the amount of medal contenders that we have, there’s gonna be some disappointments (In Beijing we had Kingsbury in moguls even with the silver, Dubreuil in the 500m, men’s ski cross, curling, and our men’s hockey team as the main ones)

Cross Country Skiing - Women’s 10km and 10km Skiathlon (Confused on the format and favourites… might not be the best of guesses) @heywoodu does this look fine? :mumble:

Gold- :USA Jessie Diggins

Silver- :SWE Frida Karlsson

Bronze- :FIN Krista Parmakoski

It's generally just called the skiathlon, so having a 'X km and X km' in the title is a bit confusing. The point is that the race is cut into two halves, one is done in the classic technique, the other in the freestyle (skating technique), so in this case it's a 20km race :p

You don’t think :BEL and :GER have high chances at a medal? Especially the German, who is ahead of the Slovak athlete in the rankings from last season.

no, I don't think

women's sprint will be an easy double for :FRA with :SUI Fatton, :SVK Jagercikova (who's a pure sprint specialist) and maybe (and I underline maybe) :ITA Giulia Murada fighting for bronze, unless, as I wrote, the :CHN 2023 junior world champion has a spectacular transition to the senior ranks (which in the sprint race is quite possible)

the men's event will be a lot more open, but I still think :ESP Cardona Coll, the :SUI guys (whoever they select) and the :FRA guys are a good step ahead of the rest of the field

I hope :ITA Erik Canovi can improve a lot in these 2 seasons, but I fear the 2026 Olympics are still too early for him to become what the Italian team expects from him

the :BEL man, moreover, is not a sprint specialist at all

rankings can be deceiving, as not all the athletes always participates to all the events (and there are no discards)

And what are your early thoughts for Italy here? How many golds? How many medals in total? Who may be a new kid in the block, a breakthrough, a surprising medal for Italy???

boh? :mumble::crazy:

I don't have a consolidated idea yet...

golds? I hope many, but I fear we won't get to 5

medals? hopefully, more than in 2022

the "athlete of the Games"? Davide Ghiotto (speedskating) and Pietro Sighel (short track speedskating)

hopefully, also Sofia Goggia (alpine skiing), Arianna Fontana (short track & speedskating) and Stefania Constantini (curling)...but it's just hope, not a prediction

breakthrough? Tommaso Giacomel (men's biathlon)

newcomers? I think the Big Air guys (Tabanelli siblings in freestyle, Matteoli in snowboard), hopefully Erik Canovi in SkiMo (but, as I wrote earlier, I fear it's too early for him, as he's still a junior)

with a lot of optimism, Elia Barp (cross-country) and Daniele Di Stefano (speedskating, mass start)

surprising medals? I don't think there's any chance for :ITA to win a truly surprising medal, all those who have just the smallest chance to make the podium, it wouldn't be a true upset if they get it

Elia Barp? That's wishful thinking :p

I have more chances to become a billionaire

    • Amundsen sick and Will not continue the tour
    • They've been recognised by the IOC since 1995.
    • It’s also interesting, and I only noticed it a few minutes ago, that World Netball has made it on to the list of International Sports Federations Recognised by the International Olympic Committee.   That’s an important and essential step if you want your sport to be considered for inclusion at the Olympic Games. It means the IOC is happy with things like your governance amd development of the sport.   It may or not be at 2032, but I’ve gotta say Netball are on the road to play a future Olympic Games.
    • Jan Zachara (96) The oldest living Slovak olympic champion. Helsinki 52 Boxing.   RIP
    • It was more than just “draw a circle on a map”.     They had to put a detailed submission in to the Olympic Programme Commission and then have meetings with them to put the case forward for inclusion.   World Lacrosse are also on the list of IOC-recognised international sporting federations, just like Squash and Flag Football which were also added to the LA2028 Olympic Games, along with Baseball/Softball.  They all put detailed submissions in.   Here is the link: International Sporting Federations Recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).   So why is Rugby League not on that list?     Why is Rugby League not even recognised by the IOC?   It’s not going to be gifted to them.   Rugby League has got a lot of hard work to even be recognised because they are not even listed as an IOC-recognised international sporting federation.     If you’re not on that list, you don’t get to have your sport play at the Olympic Games   For info, the international governing body for rugby league is the International Rugby League.    Has the International Rugby League even contacted the IOC and/or put together a submission to have the sport included at the Olympics?   I don’t know if they have or not.
    • I wouldn't say there's no chance at all but if World Netball had better leadership they'd be in a much better position than they currently are.
    • Men have only been included in the FAST5 Netball World Series since 2022 and only because they're desperate to get into the Olympics so they've belatedly started building the men's international game.   Not so long ago in 2018 the World Netball outrageously declared that international netball will remain female only bucking the trend of all the other sports federations moving towards gender equality.   Imagine if they hadn't spent decades sabotaging the growth of the men's game in order to keep it "female only"? They'd have been in a much better position to bid for inclusion in the Olympics at least for 2032.
    • BDE Ágnes Keleti Z”L who considered the greatest influence on Israeli artistic gymnastics the 2nd most decorated Olympic Jewish athlete, and I guess our Hungarian friends will have more to add on her, unfortunately passed away at the Age of 103 close to her 104th birthday.
