Not often that people here congratulate sports governing bodies, but the IBSF have really done a good thing for skeleton this month.  Three Asian Cup races and then three World Cup races all in Asia have really brought out all the athletes - 38 in the women's race and 34 in the men's today, great start to the Olympic qualifying campaign.

But on the other hand, I felt transported back to the pandemic era it seems. Watched the second women's race today and there were literally 2 people in the stands... If it wasn't for the different teams and TV staff It would look like a slide through a cemetery.

nice (curious) description of what happened

I`m a bit disappointed with the starts of the Italian team. I was counting on progress from last year. And here it looks like Bagnis is still very uneven. In Cortina there will be 3 competitions with medals to win and it would be a shame not to use our track to win 1-2 medals. The same goes for luge.

don't be disappointed...this is the team and it won't change our perspective

Bagnis is (very) good only in Skt. Moritz and Margaglio is always herself, she just can't drive, she's only good at the start and after the first curve she's already gone

no way she gets a medal (and not even a good placing) when it really matters, not even at home

we can only hope that Bagnis finds the feeling with the Cortina track like in SKTM, and it's all but easy

If you hire someone like Wilfried Schneider, your ambitions must be very high. We didn't hire him to take 14th or 15th place in the World Cup or not win a at least one single medal at the Olympic Games in Cortina. The first average Italian coach who would be several times cheaper than a German could guarantee such results. In my opinion we simply miss the final step and a decisive qualitative leap forward, also in terms of technology. The same has been happening in luge for many years, that we are technologically behind Germany, Austria and recently also Latvia.

btw., Margaglio was the 3rd competitor in the general classification of the last World Cup.

Skeleton Tour moves on to Yanqing :CHN this weekend.  Asian Cup races tomorrow, then the World Cup on Saturday, and then possibly more Asian Cup next weekend before everyone moves over to Altenberg for the start of the full Skeleton / Bobsleigh tour again.
