I wonder who will skip the Olympics in order to attend :p

.

It will be few days after the last ski jumping event at the Olympics. Nothing to worry. Only some sponsors won't be happy and the B team that will go to the Continental Cup.

We had the first Grand Prix competitions this weekend in :FRA Courchevel, including the new High Five format on Sunday. High Five is a competition where ski jumpers are divided into groups of five using the serpentine system based on the quali or previous competition results - two best of each group and 4 or 5 lucky losers (women and men respectively) move forward to the second round. For the final classification, only the score in the second round counts. It's quite rough around the edges, not easy to follow in the TV broadcast, and will be tested once again next week in :POL Wisła.  :SLO Nika Prevc won on Saturday while :CAN Abigail Strate did so on Sunday, likewise :NOR Marius Lindvik and :AUT Niklas Bachlinger.

I think :SVK Slovakia had one of the best weekends ever. Hektor Kapustik was P28 and P17 :yikes:, while his younger sister Kira Maria P28 was and P27. And don't forget about Tamara Mesikova with P22 and P23. Slovakia is very close to having at least one ski jumper in each gender at the Olympics.  @hckošice

:SWE Frida Westman had a solid proper return to scoring points with P15 and P16.

To finish the update, on the men's side :KOR lost its sole provisional quota for now thanks to :GER Raimund claiming the yellow bib by coming second twice.

Oh God, a group stage format in a skiing event  Everyone seemingly wants to have a group stage nowadays.

That being said, i've been advocating to have more variety in competitions for some time. Though i said they should use the knockout system more often and not only at the Four Hills. If there is life in this group stuff, you can add it to a couple of starts in the season. Guess they are looking to make the first round more "important and exciting" in that you would have direct battles every 5 jumpers with stakes and not just wait 45 until the best arrive.

Lara Malsiner out of all Olimpics season:( I'm afraid this might be the end of her career :(

a quick look at the impact of the first summer grand prix on the olympic tables; I think in women's :SVK +1 and :SWE +1, :USA and :CZE both -1. In men's :GER +1, :KAZ -1 with :SVK and :TUR keeping the same quotas but swapping D.1 and D.2 allocations with each other.

There are a lot of moving parts so I could have easily missed something though.

It's like Nordic Combined.  Every few years they go on this kick wherein they introduce all sorts of new kinds of race formats, but once the Olympics come round it is back to the good old Gundersen again.

According to my calculations, in men's :GER +1, :SVK moved up do D.1, 2nd ski jumper for :TUR and :UKR demoted to D.2, :KOR -1.

    • I think they incorrectly translated Ukrainian word "nahorody" - it is not a full synonym of "medal". Its cocrrect translation is "award". Meanwhile russian tennis playes switched for Potapova ->  Rakhimova ->
    • Ukrainian diver Lyskun switches allegiance to Russia, loses all medals | Olympics News | Al Jazeera   'loses all medals'   I would assume Al Jazeera could have been a bit clearer and mention this would presumably only be national medals. I mean, it's not like the Ukrainian federation, or any single federation for that matter, has the power to strip her of her world and European championships medals I hope (not for her sake, but because that would be a super weird precedent)
    • That's what I'd plan as well (except for MelFest), but I also know I am hypocritical enough to still want to watch the show and have a fun evening

For Planet VPN....well, let us know if you find out.   fil-taker-list-25-26-winterberg-1.pdf   Also, should have mentioned above that the Nations Cup races today are just over one leg, whereas there are two runs in each of the World Cup races.
    • Got our first competition of the season coming up in Solitude, Utah  this weekend.  Live on Discovery Plus etc, plus also YouTube and the Olympic Channel.  If you are new to the sport, the sprint races on Saturday will be the format you'll find easy to understand.     ISMF   ISMF Skimo - YouTube
