The remains of these people were found after almost 100 years :( Technology has advanced, but as you can see, there is still not much that humans can do in these terrible and high mountains.

Laura's boyfriend also reportedly died in the high mountains. It's a shame this didn't stop her from making such dangerous trips, especially to the highest peaks.

Her ex-boyfriend at the time (a few years ago), to be precise, he was climbing together with his then-girlfriend in Argentina. In a documentary about Dahlmeier's climbing two years or so ago, she was clearly still affected by that, understandably, even though they weren't together anymore at the time.

That documentary also made very clear that staying out of the mountains was in no way an option for her, she seems to have loved it even way, way more than biathlon. Every time she talked or posted about it, it was clear that the mountains and everything it entails were her number one love in life. As the German news said yesterday at the end of their piece about the situation: "Staying down below was simply never an option."

OK. I wonder what draws these people to these remote and terrifying mountains in Asia, when some of their friends lost their lives this way? You can have experience, great equipment, etc., but a rock slide and that's end. It's terrifying. What's more, many of these people pay huge sums for these expeditions and sacrifice their free time/vacations for this. I'll never understand something like that. If someone offered me 1 million euros to go there and climb, I'd say no.

Yes, people like you and I are a lot less adventurous (and brave, I think). Everyone wants to enjoy life, some do that by spending lots of time on learning how to cook amazingly, others by writing books, training for marathons and so on, and yet others love adventure and experiencing things most people don't even dare dream of.

I saw some ridiculous comments on social media that were along the lines of "well she was kinda looking for it". First of all, those people simply have the empathy level of a brick wall, absolute morons, and second: I guess 'living life' for them means watching Netflix on the sofa.

It's also awful to express condolences, RIP etc., in the comments when there is still hope that she is live.

In my opinion, the only hope is that some local people found her in this valley and she's still alive there. But we'll find out tomorrow at the latest whether that's true, because getting to this valley isn't a big event—it's a well-known tourist area and a starting point for Karakorum trial mountains. We'll have to hope for a miracle :(

According to reports from the valley, a government spokesperson said she was taken away by locals from the landslide site. This is an unreliable source, though.

Also because it says this:

One of her companions, identified as Kraus Marina Eva, was still stuck at the site, he said.

While every other report so far has said Kraus had made it back to base camp (or was at least on her way), together with the aforementioned Thomas Huber.

.

According to ZDF (German TV station) just now, Laura Dahlmeier is dead. RIP. :(

Did they find her body?

If they had found her still alive, local authorities and services would probably have been notified.

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
