O Canada we know you are trying but that blow in the first set is going to maybe haunt Canada in vball.  And poor Sarah.  She would have won a medal with her semi final throw. Then there is Taylor. She didn't survive a even 30 seconds.  Let's hope for a comeback from Canada.  but blowing that lead in set one is looking bad.   For one good thing for Canada the 4x 100m it seems not so great for other events.    I am curious anyone know how Kim is ding in Breaking - has it started.  I need to think positive but fear the Sarah or Damien thing could happen to him.   It would be nice if Kate Vincent gets gold but at least a medal.  We have 24 medals with volleyball Canada needs one more to beat Tokyo but the chances are falling faster than the US are winning medals.    Realistically its Kate Vincent; 800m, Breaking - anything else?  Still proud of them but I just can't stand the heartbreak of Mitton,Warriner, especially Mitton who wanted to avenge Tokyo.  Will she wait four more years?  Can anyone else think any remaining events Canada has a chance for a medal?  Is Breaking our strongest?

Phil Wizard will compete tomorrow. There's also outside chances in diving, wrestling and cycling (not likely, but you never know). And hey, the 4x400 women's relay.

Canada's second set point in the first set.

The NBC comentators described it as Brazil getting away with murder.

I meant the yelling at each other under the net in the last set. But I'll have another look at that, too.

Okay fingers cross for Phil.  But Kate Vincent has a decent shot right too?  Strong chance in the 800m but in the last few months there are bunch of challengers :(   I was hoping maybe something like weightlifting.  I am not too confident about diving or cycling.  I thought Taylor was really our last hope in wrestling.  I assume the guy in the 5000k is not much of a threat; I am shocked about Mohammad - how unlucky he got tripped up.  Literally the agony of the feet/defeat.  Still Canada somehow looks like it will beat Tokyo medal count.  Someone needs to console Taylor and Mitton especially Mitton.

I feel most upset about Mitton. As a former shot-putter (all the way to hs, nothing drastic) I followed her since Tokyo and really expected a gold here, or at least to challenge for it. Everything seemed to line up in her favour, but she just didn't get it done. Yes, it was wet, but it was wet for everyone. Oh well.

Canada will beat the 24, I don't see us getting shut out tomorrow (yet, still wouldn't be surprised). But I don't know if another gold is in the mix. There's very good chances, but nothing concrete. Of course a few concrete ones fell apart this week, so who knows. It's sport, anything can happen.

Something I didn't realize in real time, is that :CAN had the exact same athletes in the exact same order in the men's 4x100m in Tokyo and in Paris (and 3/4 were in the final in Rio, too).

I agree about Mitton.  I love a comeback story after disappointment.  She just couldn't do it. I am not sure if it was the weather as you are right al lhad to deal with it or the olympic stage pressure.  She might be like Pamela Ware who never ever got her medal she dreamed of. And there is that lady in diving not Ware who got 3  4ths - two at this olympics. Ouch.   Everyone has a dream not all get it.   I agree Canada will get one more medal most likely at least.  I think Wizard or Kate or Arop  should get a medal maybe 2 of them   I would love all 3 to get medals but doubtful.

I kind of wonder about some of the beach vball stuff - in the first set though I think Canada is thrilled with silver anyways.

On reflection, even if Canada doesn't win any other medals (which I think would be surrising tbh) I'm still relatively happy with the overall performance.

I feel like most of our big favourites did win. There were a lot of dissapointments, too, but I feel like that happens every Olympics. The fact that we matched our (non-LA 1984) record in both gold medals and total medals despite those misses is really impressive.

And I've not given up on us breaking both records! Just that if you told me these were the medals we would win before the games, I would have gladly taken it.

Like, honnestly, Summer McIntosh's performence along with the men's 4x100m relay are things we're going to talk about decades from now. That's pretty awesome.

    • Spring Nationals, Day #4   once again, Sara Curtis MVP of the day   after improving her National record over the women's 50m freestyle in the morning heats, she repeated herself in the afternoon final, winning the title and swimming another record, this time down to 24.43 (2nd clocking of the year so far, for what it means)   more from the 4th day of the championships:   men's 100m fly: 1.Federico Burdisso, 51.83 (a step back from yesterday's medley relay leg); 2.Alberto Razzetti, 51.94 (despite all, new PB for him)   women's 100m back: 1.Anita Gastaldi, 1.00.46 (PB)...it was a very close and entertaining race, despite the poor clocking...however, the 1.01.X swum by a couple of girls from 2008 and 2009 is a better news than the actual medal contest   men's 200m back: 1.Christian Bacico, 1.57.70 (PB and triple crown for him in the back races...in absence of Ceccon, of course)   women's 200m fly: 1.Paola Borrelli, 2.08.94 (PB, but still way behind the expected time)   men's 200m breastroke: 1.Christian Mantegazza, 2.10.68 (PB, but once again, not even close to the expected result, especially after his new big PBs in the 100m breast and 200m IM)   men's 200m free: 1.Carlos D'Ambrosio, 1.46.32; 2.Filippo Megli, 1.46.82; 3.Marco De Tullio, 1.47.31; 4.Alessandro Ragaini, 1.48.03 disaster, total disaster in the 4*200m free relay's perspective. D'Ambrosio did the bare minimum, won the title but the clocking is way, way worse than expected (partial excusation, he said he was sick with fever last week) big disappointment also from Alessandro Ragaini, who won last year in 1.45.8 and now looks totally out of shape   finally, in the women's 4*200m free relay, no significative clocking was registered...after all the emotions of the individual success, Alessandra Mao just swam a 2.00.47 internal leg
    • Nice to see 4-time pre-2024 world champion (and silver plus triple bronze winner) Summer McIntosh be nominated for 'breakthrough of the year'
    • Iran athletes of the year (based on our own calendar which is from March to March)   Male: Mehdi Taremi (Football)  Female: Nahid Kiani (Taekwondo)   well, it happens when you let people decide, the most famous guy wins, Inter Milan's bench player
