Winter Olympic Games French Alps 2030 Sports Programme

Recommended Posts

As there are several indoor games except judo in summer olympics.. this would be very strange. Main programme of winter olympic game could include boxing, wrestling, judo, taekwondo, fencing, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, gymnastics, basketball, ...

I think this could not be accepted....

Judo at Winter Games??? Nah… it should be only sports connected with snow / ice somehow. Cross-country running and cycling may be the only exception for me

It's difficult because only European countries and a few others probably care about the Winter Games, so I imagine they're trying to seize any opportunity to increase the popularity of these games. I think it's unlikely they'll embrace the idea of bringing judo, but I'm curious to see what ideas they'll adopt.

I've long been in favour of including cross country running and cyclocross in the Winter Olympics. But I think moving indoor sports with no connection to winter sports is a terrible idea.

Yeah, unless they move stuff like swimming and/or gymnastics to winter, it'll just be the "B Olympics"

Yeah i agree that cyclocross and cross country makes perfect sense in winter olympics. Sports like the indoor ones already in the summer olympics should stay in summer olympics though imo.

New indoor sports im open to being put in winter olympics though. Stuff that aren't currently in olympics but may be one day, like pool , snooker and darts . Im OK with them being in winter olympics

What Coe really wanted to say:

- "I'm a great judo fan, it could be moved to the Winter Olympics" = "these damned inferior sports, I'll try hard to get them moved where they'll lose 90% of the media attention that now they get only because they are in the big Olympics. Fuck them";

- "I want more events out of the stadium"= "field events suck, I want to move them out of the way, maybe I'll allow pole vault in the stadium if there's Duplantis. But no one gives a shit about the rest, let's stage them along a river or something so that they can throw their stupid hammers in it".

What makes me laugh is that the diamond league field event only final where it wasnt in a stadium was actually my favourite times i had watching field events in diamond league this year because the area and floor was designed for field events  and it had all the focus 🤣

I think the main problem is drawing attention away from the few winter sports that do get attention. This could happen with judo, for example.

They were testing variations of some summer sports like ice swimming and snow volleyball. I think that's the best approach.

The only summer sports I would perhaps consider sending to the Winter Olympics are table tennis and archery.

Indoor/year-round sports don't really belong in the Winter Olympics, it loses its meaning. If it isn't played on snow or ice then it doesn't belong.

What I fear is the IOC dropping the summer/winter moniker and attempting to host the Olympics every two years, but with the sport program alternating. They only thing that will achieve is brand confusion and fatigue.

    • At the pro level (NHL) 20 players dress every game - 12 forwards (4 lines of 3 forwards), 8 defensmen (3 pairs of 2 defensmen) and 2 goalies. You kinda need a third goaltender in a tournament setting (because if the starter goes down you still need a backup, and it's such a specialized position that you can't really get anyone else to fill in), and you also need one spare forward and defensman for when you need to do a healthy scratch. So 23 players is sort of the "default" roster size.   It was expanded to 25 sort of as a compronise - previously the roster size was 23 (still is for the women, though that will likely expand to 25 in 2030), but you were allowed to do emergency injury replacements during the tournament. Now, the roster is bigger (25) but you are not allowed, under and circumstances, to add a player after the tournament starts.
