Agree to an extent, though what's noticable is Canada's particular relative weakness at those sports, preferring baseball, Canadian gridiron football, ice hockey and (for netball, the other commonwealthy team sport), Basketball.

As for patterns of immigration, they are probably similar enough. The big difference, really, is Soccer and the number of futbol crazy hispanic Americans, though the sport has clearly reached a tipping point in the US

In what sense?

I won't speak for the Canadians, but I suspect that many of them would say hockey (by which they mean the ice variety) comes above everything else and by quite a long way. :p

The US because of its sheer population size was always likely to catch up and overtake Canada in the 'commonwealth' sports when they started paying attention to them. Rugby is an interesting one, because the US has a great university tradition for rugby. But it hasn't previously been able to build on that in any wider sense.

In the sense that Atlanta United can pull a 60,000 crowd for a home regular season game. Or more prosaically, in the sense that they have now got an ecosystem of 30 professional tier one clubs with significant attendances, backed by a pyramid of smaller pro clubs that can draw too  - e.g. Sacramento Republic or Lousiville - that unlike the old NASL, doesn't always look in danger of imminent collapse.

Specific to cricket, the USA was undoubtedly the worst run cricket federation in the world up until a few years ago. Now they're almost competent

Oh that makes sense. I was worried that you meant a tipping point in the 'bad' direction and I was confused!

I'm going to Netherlands-South Africa on Saturday.  Thought about trying to get to one of the US matches, but the schedule didn't work out.  But I've been following this match today.  What a result!  Especially since it took a boundary to force that super over in the first place.

U-S-A!  U-S-A!!

That's a good choice of match you'll be travelling to. South Africa are pretty good but struggle against the Dutch who have beaten them in every format at World Cup in this decade. Maybe US goes to Super 8 then more matches.
