for Bronze: :GEO vs :KOR and :ITA vs :UZB

for Gold: guess who? :p but it's :JPN vs :FRA of course!

p.s. someone one day would explain me what's the logic behind the Italian officials' decisions in Today's competition?

I think that they want to issue a few reserve people. Looking at Lombardo's Instagram, he is not in the World Cup squad at all, he only trains alone.

If a judoka loses in R32 with R64 being bye does he still get full points for reaching R32 or only participation points

participation points. I'm not sure what happens if the only "victory" is by WD from the opponent.

In a newspaper interview Polling mentioned how unorganized the Italian Federation is. For instance, it was not long before the Worlds, but she had no information about the travel arrangements.

She’s suffering from ADHD, so needs certainty and structure. But strangely enough the total lack of structure works for her. I assume because if you expect nothing, you can never be disappointed.

well, maybe she was just adapting to her new team...

but you can be sure that Italy is always the best arranged team when travelling around the world, we do even have our cooks and we bring our essential kinds of food with us...

no team puts their athletes in better condition to perform than ours

obviously, we do everything "the Italian style", which means no anticipated/long term programs...we always adapt to the situation and find the best solution that fits that given day's condition

living in Italy for so long, now she should know how it works at our latitude... ;)

and surely it's way, way different than in the Netherlands (or any other Central/North European Country) :dunno:

I’m sure you know better than her, but I took the trouble to find the newspaper in the letterbox.

‘Polling …. Likes structure, clarity. This is lacking in Italy.” She then gives the example of not knowing when she’s going to leave for a tournament that will take place within two weeks (I earlier concluded she meant Worlds, but that’s not explicit). ‘Motherhood made her more flexible. ‘I could not have handled that uncertainty and slow organization 8 years ago.” Mocking: In Italy I know precisely where I am at, and that is that I don’t know where I am at”.

Leave it be, for many in NED we are either completely unorganized or run by the "maFFia", we're lucky when they choose the first option.

I’m just quoting someone who has direct personal experience of how the Italian Judo Federation is run and imagined that to be interesting. Whether she’s right or wrong, I don’t know. I have no opinions whatsoever on the way either Italy or the Italian Judo Federation are run, because I have no personal experience of either and these matters have zero influence on my life. There’s enough shit going on in my own country.

    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
