  • 2 weeks later...

:CAN squad for the Pan American Qualifier has been announced.

As expected, Ruien Xiao (women’s epee) and Nicolas Zhang (men’s epee) will be our representatives. Both fencers are among the favourites in their weapon, but it’s all very close and I wouldn’t be surprised (just disappointed, which I guess is nothing new) if we don’t manage to win any quotas.

Mexico’s best chance for a quota, Nataly Michel (women’s fool), is out as she announced her pregnancy, and thus, a reserve will be forced to compete unprepared in less than a week.

So that’s pretty much a quota for :BRA then. Don’t see any other fencers capable of challenging.

I think if Alely Hernandez had more time to prepare, she could do better; she’s still not defeated of course, but it will be not be an easy to be ready on the last minute to an all or nothing tournament.

Men's epee pool round is complete.

Received a bye to the elimination stage

:CAN :USA :BRA

Advanced to the elimination stage (in order)

:JAM :CHI :ARG :ISV :MEX :CUB :PAN :GUY :CRC :NCA

The big winner is the athlete from Jamaica who finished undefeated in his pool. Of course the top seed will be a lot harder.

    • Anyway, for those who were following this discussion a few weeks ago,  has an excellent chance of first-ever World Cup podiums, possibly even wins, this weekend.  Roche Silveira won and was second in two full-scale rehearsal races last weekend, and has two chances in Pyeonchang on Saturday and Sunday. Then Pinheiro Braathen has another chance in the Levi slalom on Sunday.

    • this week it's all about Hockey (NHL, CHL and domestic leagues all around Europe) and Baseball (Premier 12)   with a bit of Winter sports and Swimming (Italian Short Course Winter Nationals) on the weekend
    • Well. I'm sure they'll both find things to do that'll make themselves richer, though from what I understand it's more of advising role than an actual cabinet position.    Had hoped that Ramaswamy ended up in the senate. Would certainly make it a more interesting target for the special election.
