looking at the Greco brackets (tomorrow competitions) I expect Egypt to qualify a full team (they already have one) I can't see any of them in danger of losing the quota. but accident happens sometimes.

TUN and ALG are next best countries in Greco but in some weights they are in the same half as Egypt. I think all 12 qualified wrestlers will be from these 3 countries. but I hope to see some surprises

Four Oceania nations are competing in men's -67kg Greco-Roman and they all ended up on the same half of the bracket. Algeria likely wins the quota though.

I see lots of wrestlers registered for both Greco and FS competitions and some of them simply just withdrew ! they probably tried their chance to see if they get a super easy draw in Greco (and withdrew when they didn't)

only 3 wrestlers are actually competing at 130kg (4 registered, 3 of them are in freestyle too, 1 withdrew)

first surprise of the day and probably the biggest one. Mohammad El Sayed the only Olympic medalist in this competition just lost to :TUN Nasr, and it wasn't just an accident, the Tunisian guy really deserved it :yikes:

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
