 Kim Gun Woo (World Ranking: 8th) not making the quarterfinals directly is quite surprising.  Roberts Kruzbergs (World Ranking: 7th), who did well all season, did not start.  Emons and  Treacy got a penalty and are eliminated already.

 Hanne Desmet crossed the finish line in second place but hindered Santos-Griswold prior to that and received a penalty.

 Hwang Daeheon initially finished first, but hindered his compatriot  Park Ji Won, eliminating both when riding in first and second during the race

Kim Boutin is World Champion!! in the women's 500m. After multiple silver and bronze medals through the Worlds and Olympics, this is her first ever gold!
