the whole start list was announced few days ago (and it was also available earlier in their "Arena" section)

that's not surprising at all. he is cutting few kilos, the time gap between the Euro Champs and Euro Qualifier is not that much. Euro Champ is still important, so wrestling one weight up (and most probably winning a medal) was the best solution.

  • 2 weeks later...

Great news from the upcoming European Wrestling Championships in Romania.

7 of 10 russian freestyle wrestlers did not get romanian visas. Uguyev and Sadulayev (participants of pro-war rally) are at the top of this 7-list.

Mamiashvili wanted support from UWW but it looks like they ignored him because he siad that UWW are "scoundrels" and thus "we do not communicate with them".

Thus russians are trying to change their roster and send second or even third numbers to Romania - those who got visas.

It is notable, that just a few days before Ukrainian NOC send an open letter to the IOC to get explanations: how can those russian wrestlers be allowed to compete and even get olympic licenses with so obvious proofs of their war support.

No public reaction is known at the moment, but it looks like UWW is not so active in defending Sadulayev and Co as it was earlier (by now). Of course, the sory continues...

I just notice that UWW become a pay-for-view only. That's sad.

Yes from the last Champs... I had this paid status, but luve scoring was terrible there and still in on this site.

wow. what a finish for the first day of finals. A fantastic throw from Semenov to pin the great Kayaalp. :yikes::hyper:

Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Komarov (SRB/RUS) won the remaining gold medals today.

Sadulaev is allowed to compete but the others are not allowed. So nobody will respresent russia in several wights

Kayaalp had 12 golds and 1 silver until today, he wanted to beat Alexander Karelin's record of 13 gold medals in Europe but in a moment of madness Semenov stopped him.

(technically Kayaalp has 11 Euro golds, but most sources count 2015 European Games as the European Champs too)

this is the famous throw.

Not sure if it was the NOC or the biathlon federation (I assume the latter) that put him in the Livigno training 'world' with a former Italian biathlete as coach, but they can definitely also be blamed:  almost everyone involved in that shitshow got the motivation just sucked out of them by the methods and shitty atmosphere until they either retired or changed country

    • Lots of injuries, including often just pure bad-luck stuff like a fall from a set of stairs, illness, and of course the Sochi tragedy in 2014: one of her biathlon friends, young Julia Pieper, killed herself with a biathlon rifle early during the Olympics (she wasn't on the team, but was a training partner of both Preuss and Dahlmeier). Obviously a hard hit, which led to terrible Olympics for Preuss, with a DNF, awful results in her other individual races and a relay where she was the first runner for Germany, but fell early on, got snow in her rifle and broke a pole and ended up losing almost 3 minutes, which in turn resulted in Germany being off the podium for the first time ever.   After that came all the injuries and illness and everything. So glad to finally see her have her big individual global gold, that is so well deserved.

    • first win for the Italian men's relay since 2007      very good Home stage for us   if only the organizers didn't set the finals sessions at 2 p.m. (especially on Saturday), there would have been a lot more spectators on the seats
