Boxing IOC Olympic Qualifier 1 2024

Recent interviews from russia suggests that all the national team rejected participation in the Olympic games under the white flag. It does not mean for sure that they will not send boxers to the qualifier but it looks probable at the moment.

668 athletes have registered for the tournament - obviously way more than they expected as they have had to put in an extra day of competition.

No :ROC are taking part but there are 2 :BLR in these initial numbers.

Final entries to be confirmed 1st March.

An average of 50 athletes per weight class, but unlikely to be even distributed, so there may be more than 64 in some classes - so a minimum of 4 wins required to bag a spot. That is brutal.

Or put it this way - most male boxers who qualify for the Olympics will only need two wins to medal (Most will not have a round of 32 fight, so win last 16, win QF  = bronze)

About 8 are there already in most classes. These guys are two wins from a medal right now.

The poor saps at QF1 are possibly 7-8 consecutive wins away right now *

* (ignoring SF and F in the QF1 which have no effect on qualification/medalling)

But the lads already there had to win a number of fights to get there (maybe not the Australians)

Then the lads that lose in the QF at QF1 may have another 4 fights at the Second qualifier
