Women's Basketball FIBA Olympic Qualification Tournaments 2024

We will have to do it the hard way. Spain can decide how much they want to play properly or just let Canada to get eliminated.

Have you ever played competitive sports? They’re athletes, they want to win. Probably the stupidest logic ever. Only rare exceptions can be made to it, such as the badminton scandal at London 2012.

@Adriano Starting to feel your pain. :(

Nothing has been going right for Canada throughout the Olympic qualification period.

Japan isn’t as bad of a team as you’re making them out to be.

Congratulations to Japan. Frankly, despite their ranking, Canada never looked good at the Olympics anyway and failing to qualify can just eliminate the fake hype around them early.

But hey, there's still a chance. Go Spain!

Ofc they want to win, but it's not a competitive game for them at this point, which is a big deal. For Spain this is a preparation match for the Games while Hungary is playing to survive. The gap between the two teams isn't that significant, Hungary beat Spain on a friendly match before Eurobasket, so if Spain isn't 100% on the field because they are already celebrating their quota, that can be decisive.

But there's always a chance that the Hungarian team has a bad day and they crumble under pressure while Spain has a nice calm match and they win.

    • Exactly. Recent developments of the construction haven't been particularly encouraging, and while they'll probably get everything sorted just in time, a lot of North American fans have been quite vocal about every minor inconvenience.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
