Season already underway in the Antipodes with the   Nationals, but first races to be televised in Europe start this week with the Tour Down Under (Sheilas) starting in the early hours tomorrow. Followed by the Tour Down Under (Bruces) on Sunday.  Then the two Challenge Mallorca series later in the month.

Yeah, that stage win was something else!  

 

Classic example of what in Dutch one would call 'turbodijen': turbo thighs, meaning someone isn't even really attacking/sprinting away, but just overpowers the entire peloton on raw pace, which is insane for such a young rider (and awesome considering it's a whole new country!)

Brailsford resigned today as Ineos Grenadiers leader, and is stepping away from cycling altogether towards Manchester United. Seems oddly apt - whatever the dubious bits, the end goal of Sky/INEOS was always going to be to render itself obsolete, with a steady stream of GBR riders coming through in other teams, and today feels like an example of the goal achieved - and without INEOS ever having grabbed the nettle on a women's team, the upcoming Backstedt-Ferguson era looks ti show that side in rude health too. Perhaps a good time, then, to walk away, and let the larger sport in the country move on...

I had missed that, but Brailsford leaving cycling is already the best cycling news of the year, even though the best time for him to leave was the day he entered the world of cycling.
