World Rowing have announced that :SRB have been suspended because of the debts they owe the organization.

This means their Olympic qualifier in women's single sculls will have to wait until the matter is solved before she claim a place in Paris

New Zealand confirmed to be competing in World Cup II in Lucerne in late May:

NZ Rowing Team to compete at 2024 World Rowing Cup II in Lucerne, Switzerland 24 – 26 May : RowingNZ

Think it is safe to assume this will be pretty close to their Olympic roster but there are a couple of changes to the squads that took part in last year's World Champs:

Women's Four - Kerri Williams comes in to replace Ella Cossill

Men's Double Sculls - Jordan Parry replaces Benjamin Manson

Men's Pair - Dan Williamson joins Phillip Wilson in the crew with Ben Taylor moved to the reserve pair.

Australia announce their squad for 2024

https://rowingaustralia.com.au/trio-of-olympic-champions-bolster-mens-eight-as-2024-team-unveiled/

  • Headline news is that they have opted for the Men's eight as their priority sweep boat instead of attempting to defend their Olympic title in the Men's four. Olympic champions Alexander Purnell, Spencer Turrin and Jack Hargreaves come into that boat.
  • Paddy Holt moves from the eight into the pair with Simon Keenan.
  • Angus Widdicombe and Tim Masters move from the eight to the four with Fergus Hamilton from the pair joining two time Olympic medallist Alexander Hill.
  • The pair was 8th and the old four 6th at worlds so chances are the net result of all this rejigging of the pair and the four is a couple of B final appearances but maybe they can sneak into an A final. Then again obviously the idea is mostly to try an upgrade from bronze in the eight.

  • On the sculling side of things opted to focus on the double instead of a quad despite the quad being close to Olympic qualification last year. They select a double of David Bartholot who most recently was in the quad and newcomer Marcus della Marta. They will consider and presumably select a quad for FOQR in a few weeks time.

  • For the women their world silver medal winning pair is of course unchanged and they opt to not yet commit to selections in the eight or the four. Hard to know which one they should prioritise.
  • The only change to their women's sculling squad seems to be Laura Gourley swapping the double for the priority quad and Harriet Hudson going the other way.
  • The women's lightweight double sees Giorgia Miansarow replace Lucy Coleman joining Anneka Reardon although they haven't commited to sending the boat to FOQR after its 13th place finish at last year's worlds. It's competitive enough that I would absolutely send it.

They also announced they would race a b squad at World cup 1.

:SRB suspension has now been lifted after the debt was settled.

Entries are out for the Piediluco Regatta: http://www.memorialdaloja.org/index.shtml

Some surprises within the Greek team. We are sending two men's double sculls teams and breaking up Kalandaridis and Palaiopanos. They were in Final A at the 2022 Worlds but Palaiopanos got injured after and they were horrible in 2023, they finished in Final D at the 2023 Worlds so now Kalandaridis is teaming up with 17 yo Cholopoulos who is probably way too young to be able to qualify for Paris although his results have been impressive for his age.

Women's double sculls we have a young inexperienced crew of 19 yo Asvesta and 16 yo Lykomitrou, meanwhile we have Fragkou and A.Kyridou each in the single sculls. I think it's strange when they are clearly better and it would make sense for the two of them to team up together in the double sculls (especially since only one will be able to compete in single sculls in Paris), but I'm not sure why M.Kyridou isn't here.

The Kyridou sisters posted something cryptic after the internal regatta a few weeks ago which made it seem like they didn't make the national team, so now I'm pleasantly surprised to see that one of them at least made it, but it's weird at the same time, and for the first time ever (at least that I can remember) the federation didn't publish the results from the internal regatta, and one of their Tokyo Olympians who got 5th place didn't make the national team but "random" teenagers did?!
