Meanwhile Petra Kvitova is pregnant and given she will be 34 this year I don't see her coming back tbh.

Naomi Osaka won in two sets - over Tamara Korpatsch - on her post-pregnancy return (Brisbane) and Amanda Anisimova also won in two sets - over Pavlyuchenkova - on her post-burnout return (Auckland).

Here’s an incredible slice from Raducanu, felt it deserved a share.

Ruse's grunt reminds me so much of Halep :yikes:

Women’s Singles

1. :USA Coco Gauff

2. :UKR Elina Svitolina

3. :USA Emma Navarro

3. :CHN Wang Xiyu

Gauff defends her title from 2022, coming back from down a set to win in three against Svitolina, who’s had a incredibly successful post-pregnancy comeback. First tournament back for Emma Raducanu (Stuttgart Open) and Amanda Anisimova (Madrid Open), both managing to register one win each (Anisimova beat Pavlyuchenkova, and Raducanu beat Ruse). Really impressed with Raducanu’s return in particular, first two sets in her match against Svitolina in the R16 was some high-level tennis, but unfortunately ran out of gas by the end of the second set. Raducanu was actually up 5-1 in the first set, with multiple set points, eventually taking the set at 7-6 (5). Maybe if she’d have closed out the first set earlier, the third set would’ve been more competitive, but I guess we’ll never know. Raducanu needs to get more matches in, and more fitness work done during training.

    • Shades of 1998 with  and  in the same group but this time it's really a terrible draw for the Thistles. I recall Brazil and Scotland played in the same group in 1974 and 1990 too so that's quite a high probabiliy rate.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
