The IBU could off-set their carbon emissions from their vehicle and plane usage. I’m not too familiar with specifics involved in that process, but maybe that’s an option.

I truly wonder how they're planning to do this.

- World Cups in Central Europe only are just not very realistic, even if most are there (and then we're not even talking about the IBU Cup and Junior Cup and their respective championships).

So one thing that this will cause, in my opinion is saturation in that area, and a strong decline outside of that area.

The US has announced a 12 person roster for an on the snow camp in Austria that will start in early November.

Women's Team

Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.)

Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine)

Joanne Reid (Grand Junction, Colo.)

Deedra Irwin (Pulaski, Wis.)

Chloe Levins (Rutland, Vt.)

Maddie Phaneuf (Old Forge, N.Y.)

Men's Team

Leif Nordgren (Hinesburg, Vt.)

Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.)

Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wis.)

Jake Brown (Saint Paul, Minn.)

Max Durtschi (Ketchum, Idaho)

Vaclev Cervenka (Grand Rapids, Minn.)

It is nice to see Phanuf back in the group.  She has had a very public fight with mental illness due in part to getting sick at the 2018 Olympics and not being able to race.  It will be interesting to see who gets the 4th spot for the women's team for the relay.  Do they go with Levins who is the projected future, or with Irwin or Phaneuf?

The Men's team have two solid biathletes, then it is wide open.

CAS appeal for Ustyugov and Sleptsova is delayed due to COVID.

This is possible the most cringe-worthy biathlon thing I have ever heard.  I guess they think they are funny.  It is dated, but a representation of what fans of biathlon face in the US and Canada.

While this is a really good interview with an 50ish biathlete in the US about starting the sport, and all of the positives.  What a difference in the two.

I'll have time to listen tonight, but I can almost guarantee I've heard more cringe-worthy things in a few years of following the Brazilian 'team' :d

The first one is only 3 min long, but it is painful.  It is from the 2012 Winter Olympics, and they really think that they are funny.

The Canmore area expects a 20% increase in nordic skiing and biathlon participation this winter.  I have heard similar things from other areas here in the US.  Nordic skiing feels safer than many other activities in a COVID world.  It will be interesting to see if this becomes a world wide trend, or a localized one.

That is a lot of people in a very small space.  It is expected to be all alpine resorts or will the regular chairlifts be open.  We could see a substantial surge of people involved in Nordic Skiing.

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
