My prediction is we'll lose by a few goals in the women's gold medal match and win silver, if we don't get knocked out by the Czechs in the semis who have a strong roster. Then, us against Sweden in the men's gold medal match. But we'll see.

Total nightmare scenario

Then again, Hockey Canada is really just a disaster rn, on and off the ice. Maybe poor showings here will eventually lead them to have no choice but to completely reset and start from scratch, culture and everything. But who knows really

I am not tempting the hockey Gods, I DO NOT TEMPT YOU I AM MERELY STATING FACTS MY LORDS!

But, the Canadian women have only lost gold once in the last 6 Olympics, and it was in a shoot-out.

You know, the one gold medal game I got to attend.

And then I got to watch Koe lose in the semis to Americans later in the day.

Fun times. (It actually was an amazing day, spent most of it in Canada House and met athletes and had a great time).

I mean the rivalry series was an absolute disaster, we lost all of our games to the US and some of them were blowouts. Very concerning.

Again, I respect and bow down to the hockey Gods. But Canada often loses to the US before the Olympics.

Listen, it's 50/50 in any one game playoff. The USA lost to Sweden in the semis in 2006 for the women.

And that goes for the men too. People are saying it's between Canada and the US. One game can change anything. Belarus scored from the center line in 2002 to get to the semis against Canada.

On paper, it should be Canada vs USA in both genders, then whatever happens in that game. But before that things can happen. Heck, it was thought to be Canada vs Russia in 2010, and they met in the quarters. Then Canada barely squeaked by Latvia in the quarters in 2014. (Side note: the only goal given up by Canada in the playoffs was against Latvia).

Edit: Canada allowed 3 goals in 6 games in Sochi. 2 of them where against Norway and Latvia (the other against Finland). Crazy. As a Habs fan, thank you Goalie Carey.

Edit 2: It is insane that even though Price had a SV% 0.972, and shutouts in the semis and finals against the two biggest rivals, he was not named MVP of the tournament or to the all-star team. Ok, insane defence, but totally undervalued.

Getting thumped in the rivalry series is usually a precursor for gold for both teams 🤷‍♂️😆

How?

Isn’t it almost always close?

Either way, in 2002, on the women's side, :CAN lost 8 straight games to :USA before the Gold Medal Game, and were considered heavy underdogs. But we all know how that ended.

The Americans were also pretty much like "we had no idea how to handle adversity"

Before 2014 Canada dropped the last four straight... in 2018 the US lost the last five straight... both went on to gold

To be fair, most of the games were much closer than these
