yes, we destroy this Bulgarian team, and their leader Ilieva is in great danger for receiving the quota place :raspberry: That's all about karma and what you said about Kharlan earlier

that was disappointing :( to compete with the best of the World we need a good 3rd guy which we don't (and won't) have after Abedini's retirement.

but it was/is a good tournament in term of Olympic Qualification. by my count only a silver/gold medal for Japan or Gold for China in the last WC can take the quota away from Iran. that's unlikely but far from impossible.

So we have a draw for tomorrow`s women sbare world cup

https://www.fencingworldwide.com/en/12156-2023/direct/1

Finally,  :ITA  and :UKR are not to face each other in the 1/4.

But it means potentionally a very important clash of Italy and USA at this stage. @phelps

I would say good draw for us. We need USA out of top 4 to get a quota, so if Italy can knock them here, they could pass them in the rankings. Also it's better we avoided Hungary, as we always struggle against them. Korea is much more suitable from the big teams. But of course we need to first beat Azerbaijan to stay in contention.

very good day for :UKR but also for :ITA and :BUL

by beating the :USA, we made sure that :UKR now are going to overtake them in the OQR, entering the Top 4

this changes quite a few things, as the :USA are now the Pan-Am Continental qualifiers, :ITA become the European qualifiers and :BUL provisionally take the Repechage spot, even if they will have a tough task to defend that spot against :ESP in the last OQT (:AZE are theoretically still in contention, but it's highly unlikey they can make up for the points they lost today)

by the way, at the end of the day :FRA:HUN:KOR:UKR and :USA will be able to enjoy the mathematical qualification to the Olympic Games

:ITA are almost there (only a true catastrophe in the last OQR could move them out of qualifying position), same for :ALG (African spot)

the only real fight is between :BUL and :ESP (and maybe :AZE) for the Repechage spot

in the men's sabre, the top 4 of the OQR are also the semifinalists from Today's tournament, which increases their margin over the rest of the contenders

:ITA however are not so far away from :FRA and they could still overtake them, unless :FRA win later Today

and, what's way more important, we still have a decent margin over :GER for the European spot

:IRI are almost there among the Asian teams, :EGY (African spot) were there a long time ago as it was :CAN (Pan-Am spot), relying on the super-hot US team to easily stay in the Top 4 of the OQR

so, basically it's all done and dusted before the last OQT, except maybe for some theoretical chance :GER might still have to catch :ITA (very unlikely, however)

And some calculations on the bottom of the rankings

14 :GRE 144 (nothing to discard)

15 :ALG 134 (8 to sidcard)

16 :HKG 123 (8 to sidcard)

17 :MEX 121 (8 to sidcard)

18 :TUR 100 (nothing to discard)

Mexico is still fightinf for possible quota. A lot wil depend on brackets

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
