Today's only good result for :ITA is Torre's bronze in the men's sabre event, otherwise it's been a total disaster

an :ITA women not representing :ITA winning on :ITA soil is just the icing on the cake :zip:

however, I'm really worried about our men's Foil team, as we're without Marini and with the other guys totally out of shape, as all lost in the 1st and/or 2nd round Today (those who won bronze are not part of the squad for Tomorrow's crucial Team event)

p.s. not that the Sabre teams (especially the women) would make me sleep well

let's see what happens Tomorrow...I hope it's not gonna be a Bloody Sunday :fingers:

It seems like Georgiadou and Gkountoura always find themselves on the podium. It's really a shame that only one will be able to go to the Olympics.

I know I am biased but FIE should really change the Olympic qualification procedures. So unfair that Greece with two fencers in the top 4 will only be able to send one fencer to the Games but other countries will get 3 spots...

FIE discussed the reform this autumn. But decided:

It is notable that Katsiadakis was the head of the working group established to reform qualification process. The members had to submit new proposals until the 15th of September. But noone (including Katsiadakis) sent. It looks like all of them were to busy to find a way to allow Pozdnyakovs daughter to compete as AIN.

so far, good results for the :ITA men, not the same for the women

men's Team Foil (:TUR Istanbul)

GMM:ITA Italy vs :JPN Japan

BMM: :USA United States vs :CHN China

men's Team Sabre (:ALG Algiers)

Semifinals:KOR South Korea vs :ITA Italy & :HUN Hungary vs :USA United States

women's Team Sabre (:ALG Algiers)

Semifinals:KOR South Korea vs :HUN Hungary & :FRA France vs :UKR Ukraine

(:ITA lost to :UKR once again in the QTFs, just like at the Home Worlds...and then they also lost to :BUL, so now they have to fence for the 7th place )

men's Team Epee (:SUI Bern)

Semifinals: :FRA France vs :KOR South Korea & :ITA Italy vs :HUN Hungary

women's Team Epee (:ITA Legnano)

Quarterfinals still running: :KOR vs :CHN, :USA vs :POL, :ITA vs :UKR, :FRA vs :HKG

and the :ITA losers are down 20-11 after 4/9 assaults :wall:

4 matches :UKR vs  :ITA in a single day?

And the score is level - 2:2.

The tie will be decided in football ))

    • That was known from the start for  and will be planned for.   Sadly just the reality of sports in North America. Canada and the US are both huge, a flight from Vancouver to Halifax or from Seattle to Miami is north of five hours. Every sports league in North America has to deal with this kind of travel logistics on the regular, so none of this will seem particularly unusual to a North American player.
    • That’s not a long distance, it’s barely a 2h flight and there is no difference in timezone. Easily doable for fans as well.
