  • 2 weeks later...

Four members of the :POL team have been removed from the squad for disciplinary reasons (drinking alcohol after a warm-up game vs USA last week). FIFA won't allow a special replacement by all accounts so we're gonna participate with 14 field players + 3 GK :coffee:

It's official. FIFA didn't allow any replacements even though we tried to manipulate an injury since one of the drinkers suffered a cut around the brow ridge :p

Tournament has started, @hckošicemight want to know that :ECU drew with the hosts 1-1.

:POL vs :JPN kicks-off at 10:00 am CET tomorrow.

:JPN beat :POL 1-0. The match was stopped for 20 mins in the second half due to a tropical storm :p

That's an adventure. I'd say they should have a drink on that, but you know :p

 after the first half it looked like Brazil is going to win 6-0 or something. the first half was this one-sided

I know U17 WC is not a big deal but that was a fun match. it's rare to see such a turnaround in a match

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
