IMO @rafalgorka I think you’re severely underestimating the Canadians, who won gold at last years Worlds, and bronze and silver at the Rio 2016/Tokyo 2020 Olympics with the same four (DeGrasse, Brown, Rodney, Blake) athletes. Sure, they failed to advance from prelims at this years Worlds, but that squad was without Andre DeGrasse (our star sprinter) who chose to focus on the men’s 200m final (that happened after) rather than the men’s 4x100m heats. Canada was in a qualification position until the last leg, where Bolade Ajomale (heats runner at best) was something like 0.5s behind the rest of the field (Maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but you get my point :p)

Anyways, with Andre DeGrasse back in peak form (no recent 100m time to judge from, but a 19.76 at the DL Final shows he’s definitely back on track) after years plagued by injuries and covid, we should be one of the medal favourites.

Still unsure as to which weightclass Lukas Krjpalek (judo) will compete in at Paris. :mumble:

As for changes I’ve made, here’s a list:

Rugby Sevens- Men’s Tournament

Originally, it was Gold- New Zealand, Silver- Fiji, Bronze- Australia. Now, after the first two stops of the HSBC World Series, Gold- Australia, Silver- Argentina, Bronze- Fiji.

Rugby Sevens- Women’s Tournament

Originally, it was Gold- New Zealand, Silver- Australia, Bronze- United States. Now, after the first two stops of the HSBC World Series, Gold- Australia, Silver- France, Bronze- New Zealand.

Rowing- Men’s Double Sculls/Pair

Sinkovic brothers switched back to pairs for Paris, which has altered my medal predictions in both categories.

For double sculls, originally it was Gold- Valentin Sinkovic/Martin Sinkovic, Silver- Melvin Twellaar/Stef Broenink, and Bronze- Aleix García/Rodrigo Conde. Now, it’s Gold- Melvin Twellaar/Stef Broenink, Silver- Aleix García/Rodrigo Conde, Bronze- Matteo Sartori/Luca Rambaldi.

For pairs, originally it was Gold- Jaime Canalejo/Javier Garcia, Silver- Roman Röösli/Andrin Gulich, Bronze- Marius Cozmiuc/Sergiu Bejan. Now, it’s Gold- Valentin Sinkovic/Martin Sinkovic, Silver-  Jaime Canalejo/Javier García, Bronze- Roman Röösli/Andrin Gulich

Judo- Men’s +100kg

Took out Lukas Krpalek as I still have no clue on which weightclass he’ll be competing in. Cuba’s Andy Granda now has bronze.

Table Tennis- Men’s Singles

Predicted Dario Jorgic to win bronze, now I’ve changed it to Lin Yun-Ju.

Tennis- Women’s Doubles

Krejcikova/Siniakova aren’t partnered up together anymore, so changed it to Siniakova/Vondrousova (IMO the third best Czech women’s doubles player)

ignore: turboyev.

BTW, later on I’ll also be doing a medal table/list of medalists by sport, and a list of medalists by country. This stuff takes a while to do (approximately spent around 30 hours doing these predictions) so if you could show some support it would be much appreciated.

Another couple of changes in swimming, I now have Great Britain winning silver in men’s 4x100m freestyle relay (swimming), which bumps both Australia (now bronze) and Italy (out of a medal position) down. Probably gonna change women’s rugby sevens/women’s BMX freestyle/women’s C1/K1/men’s 100m and 200m butterfly predictions/men’s and women’s street/women’s freestyle wrestling too, only one bronze for New Zealand/no medal for China/same C1/K1 silver and bronze medalists/Milak on the podium/two repeat athletes on the podium for Japan/all Japan gold medalists all sound unlikely.

Day 16- 16px-Bronze_medal_icon.svg.png women’s 62kg (Karla Godinez)

From this you can see that apparently Canada’s 11th medal will be it’s first silver. Totally unlikely.

Hi all - new to this site and very much enjoyed all of those predictions. I can speak specifically on the British hopes and I would say that I was very surprised to see Charlotte Dujardin not being predicted to medal in the individual dressage. Her recent tests on ImHoTop have been magnificent and she has been there done that multiple times at Olympics. The GB team will also include Charlotte Fry and I would be surprised if they did not claim Gold in the team event.

GB have strong teams in the rowing (this has really rebounded since disappointment of Tokyo) and swimming, and even cycling has strengthened in last 12 months. Very excited for the games! I'll be out there for all 3 weeks. Bring it on!

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
