I think that I need some break from watching and following sport, it's truly hearthbreaking how many bad luck we have in recent months, I even find a few grey hairs on my head, despite that I'm not that old, probably because of being too nervous...

Just a small reminder. IIHF will have some good troubles to solve if beat today.   In this case and GBR & HUN winning their respective groups, will play in Bratislava tournament also

 Do you still think we will find out about Belarus this coming week at the meetings ?  I would guess if Belarus is out then I suspect Hungary would replace them ( might have been Poland but now that they lost again i assume Poland is out)

I think they will need at least one more team in both cases  - as for now - Ukraine will not play against belarus.

A special general assembly of IIHF leaderboard is schedulled from Monday (Tomorrow) in Zurich. One of the main points (the most important) is the discussion followed by vote about the eventual extention of the ban on :RUS and :BLR from IIHF program (including the WOG Milano-Cortina 2026)

 

This is a full 14 members list of the leaderboard which will vote for or against extention of the ban

The Swede Larsson and Finn Hietanen have already told to their domestic media that their oppinion about the continuation of the ban not changed. "In the current situation, we consider it impossible for Russia and Belarus to start. This is about the safety of players and events. My clear opinion is that the situation has not changed, so Sweden's position is clear," the Swedish official told Expressen.

I think 2 other possible options are where only one team is needed

 

 

1) They could kick Belarus out of the Olympics because they have to make that decision now but leave Russia in the iffy position because the Olympics are not till 2026 !  Then make the final decision on Russia in the Olympics at a later date.

 

 

2) They could do what FIBA always does.  Kick both out but add only one team. Then say the three winners plus the highest ranking non-winner advances to the Olympics. Basically saying Slovakia you have to play the 3 games but your in anyway.

If you hear anything about the results from this meeting would you post it here ! In the USA they rarely give any info on the IIHF.  Thanks in advance

Belarus was supposed to play Slovakia in the qualifiers in Bratislava. The IIHF has not announced who will replace them or how the situation will be resolved. At the end of August, teams from Kazakhstan and Ukraine are scheduled to arrive to Bratislava. Who will be the fourth team is still questionable. Likewise, what would happen in the case that Russia will not be allowed to play at the Olympics and how their place will be awarded.

 

IIHF Statement Today,

during one of its regular meetings, the IIHF Council reviewed the current security risks associated with the re-inclusion of the Russian and Belarusian national and club teams in IIHF competitions. Based on a thorough analysis, the IIHF Council has concluded that it is not yet safe to re-enter Russian and Belarusian teams into IIHF competitions. Therefore, Russia and Belarus will not participate in the 2024/2025 season. This decision will also affect the Belarusian team in connection with the final Olympic tournament, which will take place in August 2024. The IIHF Council will, as it has done in previous years, continue to monitor the situation, with the deadline to determine whether it is safe to re-include Russia and Belarus in the 2025/2026 IIHF season to be May 2025 during the IIHF Council meeting prior to the IIHF Annual Congress.

Good that Belarus is out.  Russia gets another year in the iffy Olympics.  I suspect the replacement will be Hungary.  They are the highest ranked.

      Just create a sub-event and call it "snow cross-country" if that is all it will take for it to be permissible at the Winter Olympics.

      Extremely divided opinion.   Public:   Some take it as a fact and justify it under the point that a lot is at stake (not qualifying for the Olympics in hockey = unimaginable national tragedy) so we need the best available regardless where they are gaining their bread, Some (Pro-Kremlin/Pro-Current governement) are super excited, Some (Anti-Kremlin/Anti-our current governement and traditional hockey fans) are sad - some of them have even black screen avatars... but at the end will still watch and cheer, because missing the Olympics with such generation we currently have would be a huge waste and would not be fair... Some (Anti-Kremlin/Anti-our current Governement and casual hockey/sport fans) are shocked and disapprove to the point of considering = calling in medias to boycot the team and the tournament.   Players:   Several players expressed that they do not want to play in the national team as long as there are players from the KHL (there are names we are missing in this roster without more special informations added why, like Cehlárik, Slafkovský, Černák...), Some were some were begged on knees by the coach staff for this tournament (Like Martin Pospíšil, Feherváry or Lantoši... especially Pospíšil last days called he will not play if the KHLers will really be invited... only last night came statement of hime and his brother who is also in the team that they will both came and play for the country... as there is a lot at stake "We did not change our oppinion, but we want to help Slovakia to be at the Olympics... and play there" https://sport.aktuality.sk/hokej/clanok/martin-pospisil-sa-rozhodol-bude-reprezentovat-slovensko-2024081819450673443.   All in all, It is bad. Normally, such roster even without Slaf, Černák, Cehlárik and others missing would very likely win this group, but, who knows what will happen now...

      Hi, idiot here, cross country running and cyclo cross should ABSOLUTELY be in the winter games but the same 20 odd countries are afraid of opening up their games to outsiders    They have their rule about games being needed to be played on snow and ice but IMO that’s a far more ridiculous idea than allowing cross country running in.

      I think you are using a "small" screen. Here is what I see from a 1920px width screen:     I would suggest you to zoom out the whole website (ctrl on your keyboard+wheel on your mouse out, or ctrl on your keyboard+ "-" symbol on your keyboard). I think the website would be optimized for your screen if you set the zoom to 60-80%. Can you try that and let me know?

      After a rough look I see 16 countries that have secured the minimum standards for at least one athlete. I think there will be a few more today in Perito Moreno. Aruwin Salehhuddin of Malaysia was a surprise to me, but I see that she qualified for Beijing as well.
