[OFF TOPIC] Coronavirus Pandemic

Meanwhile in America...

23 University of Clemson (American) Football players tested positive yesterday.

13 University of Texas (American) Football players tested positive yesterday.

The Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball shut down their training camp facility in Florida after 8 of their players tested positive yesterday.

The Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball had a few positive tests and also shut down their facility.

11 National Hockey League Players also tested positive yesterday as training camps opened.

We're obviously going to see more tests as more and more players are required to be tested in order to practice. Most of the players who tested positive are asymptomatic, which means they are showing no illness. But that means the virus can be easily spread throughout a locker room and may infect the more vulnerable demographic such as older coaches, trainers, staff, front office workers. Having been apart of countless teams and been in thousands of locker rooms, being 6ft apart is a near impossible task. Contact between players and coaches and staff is an integral part of sport. I can only predict that we will see more and more positive cases in the next few weeks.

Having sports in North America in 2020 does not look as promising as it may seem.

Visitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and North Macedonia are once again required to be quarantined upon entering Croatia.

Should have been done days ago. Imports from these nations are pretty much responsible for the current rise in numbers.

She made her decision after one of the employees of the President’s Office was in contact with a coronavirus-positive person, her spokesperson informed the media.

Zuzana Čaputová was supposed to meet with her Austrian counterpart Alexander Van der Bellen in her hometown of Pezinok today.

Home quarantine for 2 days? I mean, either do it for two weeks or don't do it all. :p

From 1 July all seats in public transport can be used again, as opposed to the current situation. Right now, for example in trains only one person can sit in a two- or four-person seat and only at the window. This decision to free that up sucks big time, travelling by train has never been so relaxed as these past few weeks/months with the restrictions :d

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

That's funny. Starting tomorrow, wearing masks will once again be a requirement in public transport here. :p

    • What I'd give simply for the world juniors and such to even be back at Eurosport...those were the days
    • it's not difficult when you have such a strict policy to enter or leave the country. Or when you have a dictator that can mask number as he wish, if he can convince their people that a highly censored and restrictive land can host a competition like the Olympic Games, i'm sure he can convince no covid case was detected.   One fun fact is that their guards and border control officers were very serious and strict with people from other nationalities when entering the country, but with us it was very different, they would look at our passport with serious face, look at the country, look at us, start smiling and say "Portugal?? Cristiano Ronaldo!!!!"   This behaviour happened in every single checkpoint in every single Central Asia land. It's like a vip pass in this area of the world
    • I still remember watching the World Junior Championships in Moncton when ES was hyping her unbeaten streak of 100+ races or whatever the number was and she promptly came 2nd in 200m
    • After four weekends of winter sports, we are slowly entering the middle of the winter season . And, as usual, it's time for statistics that I don't know which theared to put in      After 29 events, 20 different NOCs was already on the podium. After several seasons, Uzbekistan is also back on the podium thanks to figure skating (and two former Russians).   This weekend will be all about ice sports, with a total of 13 events: 4 in figure skating (first stage in Europe) and 9 in short track (second stage in Montreal, since SLC was cancelled)
    • World Boxing approved seven new applications from the National Federations in Andorra, Belgium, Iraq, Lithuania, Madagascar, Kyrgyzstan and Thailand.
    • Out of curiosity, I listened to a few podcasts about Turkmenistan today. This country has very large deposits of natural gas. In the 1990s, a simple a ordinary people lived quite well there. In the early 21st century, Turkmenistan signed several unfavorable gas deals with China and has practically gone bankrupt since then. 1/3 of the population (about 2 million out of 6 million- mostly young people) emigrated, mainly to Turkey, India, etc. The future of this country is blacka and uncertain. I don't know what other options they have? Russia, Turkey, the EU? Of course, in terms of selling gas. Perhaps sanctions of Russia's and isolation due to the war in Ukraine would be a chance for Turkmenistan to establish economic relations with the EU, but the new president would probably have to loosen and a little liberate up his country's domestic politics.
    • A friend of mine who visited 97 countries of the world be in Turkmenistan (with Kunshamara, are the onlyones i know) and he tell me something that never see in another country: his presence was enough to make nervous to all the people, in restaurants, markets, etc, the presence of an "outsider" generate that.
