Los Cocodrilos de Matanzas are the new Cuban Champions, as they won the Grand Final of the 59th Cuban National Series, the top level baseball tournament on the Isle...

This is an amazing surprise and a great turnaround, as last year they were dead last among the 16 teams of the Cuban Major League...meanwhile 12 months later they're just enjoying their first ever win in the SNC (the acronim with which the Cuban National series is known)...

The losing side of this final series are Los Toros de la Llanura de Camagüey, that entered the final series as the big favourites, but their pitching staff couldn't handle the hot bats of the most classical sports "Cinderella" and they had to surrender in 6 games...

not happy at all...

the 16-team format was definitely the best one...

now they're surely goin g to have some strange/unfair system that will make it less entertaining and exciting than the previous editions...

and to be honest, there's also no need to expand the field of participants, as there are not even 16 Nations at about the same level in the world of Baseball...

Melbourne Aces win their first-ever Australian Baseball League title

The Melbourne Aces secured their first Australian Baseball League (ABL) title.

Melbourne made the best-of-three championship series as short as two games, sweeping the Adelaide Giants 4-3 and 6-2.

Jon Deeble, who managed Australia to an Olympic silver medal in 2004 in Athens, was the skipper of the Aces.

Game 1 turned out to be a real baseball drama.

Melbourne entered the ninth and final frame leading 2-1.

Adelaide scored two in the top of the inning, but Melbourne came back and walked it off with a couple of runs in the bottom half.

Veteran catcher Allan de San Miguel, who will retire after this season, scored the go-ahead run.

Reliever Jon Kennedy earned the win.

The Aces won the title clincher, 6-2, backing with 11 hits a strong start by left-hander Wes Helsabeck.

A two-run home run by Shane Robinson off David Holmberg opened the score in the third inning.

Reliever Jon Kennedy closed it off.

Game #2 Full Replay

The Melbourne Aces earned their first Claxton Shield, the trophy awarded to the winners of the top baseball competition in Australia since 1934.

The trophy is the legacy of Norman Claxton (1877-1951), a prominent figure in cricket, Australian football, baseball and cycling, who donated it.

Claxton was inducted into the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame in 2005.

I just can’t get excited about college baseball (really I can’t get excited by baseball period :p). Cool to see it’s on the MLB Network though.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
