I wonder if that actually works for them, since judo still sounds like a relatively niche sport...at least not like a massively bigger sport than say 5-10 years ago. Are that many people really going to pay €100 a year to watch judo?

IJF did much better than other similar federations (Taekwondo, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Fencing etc) to promote the sport. they are much better in organizing

but still I think it's wishful thinking. these sports have to accept their popularity as it is and don't take big steps like this. but who I am to advise the great Marius Vizer.

no, I'm not going to pay anything...

however, "regular" tournament prelims are still free on the IJF's website, finals are always on tv or on the Discovery+ app...

therefore they won't get a cent from me.

Weightlifting went behind their own paywall? That could be why it disappeared from Eurosport's channels..

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

by the way, in the early rounds of the women's -52kg, we've seen a rare double disqualification.

:CAN Kelly Deguchi and :CHN Ben Liu were both DQed after more than 8 mins of Golden Score :yikes:  which left :UZB Diyora Keldiyorova without opponent in the round of 16, gifting her of a direct quali through the top 8.

what a wasted chance for Giuffrida!

she lost by triple shido against Pupp in the quarterfinals...she could have easily gone through to the final and win her 1st world medal after many European's and a double Olympic bronze.

but she just couldn't manage the distructive "do nothing and let the opponent kill by herself with multiple shido" tactic by the Hungarian, a true specialist in this non-judo game  :hairpull:

and the right punishment for such a wasted opportunity, it's a BMM vs the worst opponent she could find with her style of play, the Olympic Champion in the -48kg class from Kosovo, Distria Krasniqi, which means that she will come home with nothing more than a miserable (given the chance) 5th place. :nopompom:

in the men's section, no major upset Today...

so, we have the most anticipated match of the entire World Championship, a new chapter of the Abe vs Maruyama neverending story.

definitely, a not-to-be-missed matchup.

and take a good seat...it coud go long, very long (or maybe not, who knows? I just can't wait for it :cheer:).

she's been great, but also very lucky in her bout vs :KOS Krasniqi.

still, I think she's just missed a chance for a silver that most likely she won't have anymore...

on the other side, mr. Nutsubidze just killed the men's final with a stupid (if not even biased) decision to give Maruyama a 3rd shido in the golden score when both players were starting to increase the pace and actually trying to do something after they did nothing in regulation.

as a neutral fan, I'm really, really disappointed.

as someone who knows quite a bit about judo, I'm disgusted.
