:USA and :GER secure quotas for Paris 2024.

Aren't there 8 more teams tomorrow? So Germany could mathematically still lose the quota place (given that China is already qualified). Not that I think there's any chance they won't qualify, but is it mathematically certain?

:USA :GER :ESP :TUR :NED :UKR :BRA :BEL :ISR currently in qualifying position but a lot of teams yet to come. I would say that all teams behind :TUR are not safe.

:ITA :SUI :KOR :FRA :CAN :HUN all have a chance to qualify.

Apologies - yes there are 8 more to come. I keep forgetting that France don't get automatic host quota.

I still agree that Germany, Turkey and Spain are basically safe. Hazard begins at Netherlands, though they'd rightly be miffed if they lost the spot from here...

Italy and the Swiss I expect to make it - after that, a lot of good but not great teams and it's a bit of a crapshoot

Yeah - with the exception of Whitlock's pommel, I don't think there is one other routine that they would say was 100% clean. I don't think that GB were helped by being in the first sub-division and it has got me intrigued about how many athletes who compete in the 1st sub-division ultimately make the individual finals.

Competition for the team next year is going to be tough - if Whitlock wins the title this week, it's going to be difficult to leave him out of the squad. Jarman and Fraser are virtual shoo-ins so that leaves a handful of gymnasts fighting it out for the last 2 spots.

Pommel is probably going to be the final watch this week - completely expect Rhys to qualify for Paris but if he is a little off his game, he could miss out on the quota here to Abu Al Soud.

Assuming, probably safely, that GBR will prioritise the team medal, it becomes difficult to justify two specialists - and Whitlock is much more a medal threat than Tulloch. Hepworth has REALLY hit the ground running, which only complicates matters further!

So for those two spots you are probably looking at Tulloch v Hall v Hepworth v Regini-Moran at a minimum, and possibly Whitehouse and Nathan as complete dark horses that you can't entirely rule out...Can't ever remember depth like this before for GBR - maybe for a brief period during the switchover from the Smith-Keating-Thomas generation to the Whitlock-Wilson-Oldham one

Yep, I have a feeling that Hepwortn may push Tulloch out as he is pretty useful on rings and offers more on other apparatus where he is a potential finalist in two of them. And if you have Fraser and Jarman as your candidates for AA it may make it harder for Hall to get in. Subject to fitness my best guess at this stage would be Fraser, Hepworth, Jarman, Regini-Moran and Whitlock with Hall unfortunately only there as the reserve. Of course someone is bound to get injured and the national Championships will probably shake it up in some way or other.

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
