I don't think it was harsh at all. With this result fixing, consequently they could have shared available prize money and/or ranking points.

And that just comes on top of making a mockery of competition and being disrespectful to other racers.

It was a British selection event! I believe they would both have been selected so that’s why they may have been jointly celebrating!

It's a bit poor they don't know the rules of their own sport then. I mean, it's not like it's the first time ever there's controversy about British top triathletes crossing the finish line more or less together.. :p

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

In my opinion, it's a much odder decision, that they ran only 5km because of the hot weather and yet kept the normal distance in swimming and Cycling. Isn't this rather unfair for the best runners?

That is worrying since this was the Olympic selection event for some nations.

Yeah, here in the article it says, that Australia has cancelled it as their Olympic selection event for this reason:  https://tri-mag.de/szene/olympia-testevent-tokio

Including for the Brits, of whom the top-2 athletes were disqualified. This was a mess

Well, athletes should hope that their federations are not stupid enough to still count this as a selection event.

Although, to be honest, triathlon is usually mostly about running anyway, so I guess it was nice that swimming and cycling became a bit more influential, at least for this one competition...

It's basically matchfixing. Can't do that.

At a major competition yes, at a lowly test event, no.

I didn’t get those vibes at all. Yes, they should have just finished race as individuals. I think the DSQ was a bit much. Let them have the moment and just use the photo finish to separate them, and give them a warning.
