Speed Skating 2019 - 2020 Discussion Thread

Shani Davis is back in the world of speed skating...he's a coach for China, training young short track skaters to go to the long track version and win medals in 2022 :cheer:

Dutch NOS had a chat with him at the Junior World Cup in Enschede this weekend, if the video works outside of the country, you can watch it here:

https://nos.nl/video/2311881-shani-davis-duikt-op-in-enschede-altijd-blij-in-nederland-te-zijn.html

Also: that's the first time he has actually said he is retired. He didn't skate anymore after Pyeongchang (they show part of what we now know is his final race), but had never officially retired. Something the reporter says in Dutch at the end will always hold very true though: "Davis likes the Netherlands and Dutch habits and the Netherlands likes Davis. It used to be like that, it still is like that and it will always be like that."

Shani :cheer:

Shani's video works also here in Italy...:yes

meanwhile Studio Sport with the Trachitol Cup doesn't (at least, right now as an ondemand service it doesn't work, I couldn't watch if the live version was different...but I have quite some doubts)...:(

Speed Skating ISU Junior World Championships 2020

The Netherlands won all the women's gold  And obviously then as well gold and silver in the main thing, the allround classification, won by mostly top sprinter Femke Kok (world record holder in the 500m for juniors), ahead of Robin Groot.

Not much for the men, as per usual. As always with speed skating, the ISU has an excellent results page:

https://live.isuresults.eu/events/2020_POL_0002/schedule

Stepan Chistiakov is the men's junior world champion by a surprisingly large margin ahead of now former world champion Chung Jaewon and top talent Pavel Taran.

It's a bit* overdue in terms of results, but Havard Bokko has announced his retirement after the upcoming world championships at home in Hamar. Too bad this is how it ended, in times gone by he showed so much fantastic potential.

*this is an understatement
