World Rowing announced today that it will allow a 'limited number' of Russians/Belarusians to compete at the 2023 Rowing World Championships (A key Paris 2024 Qualifier)

Athletes from Russia and Belarus will only be allowed to compete in single sculls, coxless pairs, and lightweight single sculls. They also will be allowed to compete in para-rowing single sculls and pairs. Larger crews (Such as fours, and eights) won't be allowed.

Starting to seem like a consensus emerging on 'teams' definition. They won't enter obvious team sport events (football, basketball, sevens etc). They also won't be allowed in other events requiring more than 2 athletes working together - relays, gymnastics team events, 3x3, equestrian team events, fencing team events, archery team events. But they will be allowed ini pairs events , tennis, table tennis, badminton, possibly diving syncro (though I suspect not), track cycling team events? Madison is a pair, the rest are 3+ teams

Huge amount of coverage this weekend from the Henley Regatta.  If you haven’t seen it, a real old school event with all levels represented from Schools, Universities, Clubs right up to full Olympic level, from many different countries.

Not the best Championships for us, but not bad either, with 4 silver medals (M1X, M2X, W2-, W2X). 4 of our 7 medalists (one from each crew) will be eligible to return next year.

We would've easily won gold in W1X had we sent Dimitra Kontou (silver this year in LW2X at the Senior Europeans and gold at the World U23s).

The European U23 Championships are currently taking place, but I want to know who had the idea to do them just a week before the World Championships?!

There are not many big names competing and for example there are only 4 boats in the women's pair

We won four medals with 7 rowers, 6 of whom were U19 athletes.

16 yo Makrygiannis won bronze in M1X which normally would be an amazing achievement for a 16 yo, but it's hard to judge based on how weak this year's U23 field was.

    • I have reported this again and they said it should be fixed now, please let me know if you are still facing issues.
    • more countries added to the list of US ban    you can't travel to USA if you are from : burkina faso , niger , Laos , South sudan , mali , sierra leon ...
    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
