Kelvin Kiptum is running an amazing race in Chicago and very much attacking Kipchoge's world record.

And doing it with the pacers dropping early.

And the only non-pacer who followed him, Mateiko, taking the lead for a grand total of....2 seconds, maybe? :d

And I am assuming he's also running on those one-race megasupershoes :p

Wow, the proper sub 2 hour barrier is now thoroughly on!

Kiptum looks like he could try again next week.

I'll invite him to the Amsterdam marathon next week, just so I can say I have run a marathon against him :bye:

Btw, Hassan won the Chicago marathon in the 2nd time ever: 2:13.38, shaving almost two minutes from Paula Radcliffe’s mark of 2:15:25 which stood untouched as the world record from 2003 and 2019.

Hassan is now the current European Record holder on the 1.500m, 1 mile, 3.000m, 5.000m (track and road), 10.000m, half marathon, and the marathon. :yikes:

Good news for :IRL is that Sonia O’Sullivan is holding back the clean sweep with the prestigious 2000m!

Hassan: European record, second all-time.

Her range is incredible: from 1:56 over 800 meters to 2 hours 13 minutes in the marathon.

Yeah, insane range. However, Hassan isn't one of the finalists for European athlete of the year. The finalists are:

  • Women: :NED Bol, :UKR Mahuchikh, :ESP Perez
  • Men: :SWE Duplantis, :NOR Ingebritsen, :GRE Tentoglou
  • Women's Rising Star: :IRL Adeleke, :LAT Caune, :SRB Topic
  • Men's Rising Star: :ITA Furlani, :NOR Ingvaldsen, :NED Laros

Previous winners:

Year Women Men Women Rising Star Men Rising Star
2022 :NED Bol :NOR Ingebritsen &
:SWE Duplantis
:GRE Tzengko :LTU Alekna
2021 :NED Hassan :NOR Warholm :NED Bol :FRA Zhoya
2020 not awarded
2019 :RUS Lasitskene :NOR Warholm :UKR Mahuchikh :GER Kaul
2018 :GBR Asher-Smith :FRA Mayer :BLR Herman :NOR Ingebritsen &
:SWE Duplantis
2017 :GRE Stefanidi :GER Vetter :UKR Levchenko :NOR Warholm
2016 :ESP Beitia :GBR Farah :BEL Thiam :GER Heß
2015 :NED Schippers :GBR Rutherford :SUI Zbären :POL Bukowiecki
2014 :NED Schippers :FRA Lavillenie :RUS Kuchina :GBR Gemili
2013 :CZE Hejnová :UKR Bondarenko :ISL Hinriksdóttir :SRB Bekrić

The fact that Thiam has never become European athlete of the year is quite surprising to me.

    • Keeping to the women's hammer theme - worlds silver medalist Jie Zhao has gone out to 78.22 in chengdu a new  and asian record.[tough Chinese women absolutely rule this throwing event in their continent holding the the top 14 all time places].
    • it was all expected, tbh fencing has now become a truly global sport if there's a sport that deserves to increase its olympic quota places (both in the team and individual events), that's fencing ioc can't ignore the elephant in the room
    • This is the first photo from Artemis2 , so earth is not flat , but we live on 1 continent only 1
    • Overall, all of Old Europe is poorly here: France - 0 medals, Germany - 0 medals, Italy - 1 bronze, Hungary - 1 bronze. For many years the fencing authorities' policy has been to give greater support to Asia and other new emergent countries: Africa, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Georgia, etc., and perhaps that's where Europe's crisis? Additionally Russia has returned and is immediately very strong.
    • and the bronze medal has gone, too   won 45-44
    • after the fireworks at the NCAA finals last week, Australian Open from tonight...expecting some interesting clockings
    • How are they going to decide who the 18 teams are for next year's championship? I see world 'C' events on the calendar already so some decisions have probably already been made.
    • qualified to both of Today's Gold Medal games    and beat  in both tournaments in their way through to the final    the disappointing campaign of the young  sabre continues (even if the boys are now playing for bronze against )
