It might take a while before WTA confirms it. http://www.sznews.com/news/content/mb/2023-02/02/content_30057145.htm It's reported by a Shenzen local government-owned media and also published on local newspaper. It listed all major sport events that Shenzhen will hold this year. Apart from WTA Finals, events like Shenzhen marathon, Diamond League Shenzhen stage, Ice Hockey Women's WCH and Badminton BWF750 level tournament are also mentioned. Makedonas 903 Posted February 10 #27 Share Posted February 10 (edited) So Pliskova has to play qualifying in Doha but Mattek-Sands, Sherif, and Zvonareva got wildcards? This is an absolute joke! Wildcards were also previously announced for Krejcikova, Rybakina, and Muguruza but they all either got in after withdrawals or withdrew themselves. And Azarenka got a wildcard too. Some of these choices are fair but some are completely ridiculous! Pliskova is a former world number one and her ranking fell because of injury, I'd like to know, what is the reason to give Muguruza one? She was healthy all year as far as I know and her ranking fell due to bad results. Edited February 10 by Makedonas
Monzanator 2,724 Posted February 10 #28 Share Posted February 10 Ons Jabeur has WD from Doha & Dubai so if there's any hope for some Arab support then it's your best guess now. Sherif probablt got WC line as the second best Muslim player on tour but Mattek-Sands and Zvonareva make no sense whatsoever. Muguruza has WD from Doha & Dubai anyway. Rybakina is out of Doha too. This Middle East swing is taking some hits but the more important Indian Wells/Miami double lies ahead after all.
