This new system really turned Taekwondo into a very boring sport , where u can get the 1st point and defend it till death and u will never get caught

and gives too much power to the refs and their "systematic" Gam-Jeong.

luckily, yesterday they didn't have any influence on the medal matches, but it's just a case...in the previous Grand Prix tournaments I've seen many dirty, biased calls (to say the least).

That's the semis & finals session...

for what concerns the earlier sessions, it's all live on YT (up to 5 mats at the same time) ;)

Rd of #16 is on right now, for instance.

best news of the week...all the competition is on YT, live and ondemand...with the final sessions not going "private" at least until 24 hours from the actual event (and hopefully never going).

all this, here in Italy, of course...I don't know if it's the same in other Nations (I guess those places where some National TV channels have bought the TV rights don't have this privilege). :mumble:

the men's fight between :SRB and :IRI is actually an Iranian derby, since Serbia is represented by Mahdi Khodabakhshi.

and :KOR are already out in 2 of today's 3 events. :yikes:

we will see lots of Iranian derbies in this sport. lots of Iranians in the draw and there will be more in the future

Khodabakhshi won (and later secured his SF spot) with a little help from the ref. but what was that celebration about at the end ? his opponent was just a 17 years old kid.

btw it seems after a while he is back to his best form, and he adopted his tactic to these new rules very well. he still has his dirty defensive tactics which work better now.

6 years ago he lost to Beigi in Rio and now he becomes the new "Beigi".

he is indeed a new Beigi. World Champion without losing a single round and I believe our teenager Abbasi was the only one who was close to beat him. or at least had a chance.

I don't know if that's because of the new rules or he is just back to his best shape. the last time he competed for Iran, he was very poor. have to give credit to Serbian coaches for bringing him back.

switching nationality is not a common thing in this sport, I believe he is the first person winning two two World Champs medals (let alone 2 gold medals) for 2 different countries.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

Although the agenda has not been published yet, there shouldn’t be any major items over these two days, apart from the election of a member of the IOC Executive Board. • Weightlifting We now have six events per gender with a total of 10 athletes per event.   The Olympic Qualification Rankings will be based on the sum of the total results of five events (three from period 1 and two from period 2). The top 8 will qualify.   The 9th spot will also be based on the OQR, but it will go to the highest ranked athlete from an unrepresented continent.   The 10th spot will be split between the host and universality (3 each per gender). Should the United States qualify normally then their host quota will be reduced, first going to an athlete from an unrepresented continent then to the overall highest ranked athlete.   Additionally, a "Best Lifter" will be awarded which would give the nation the chance to qualify 4 athletes rather than the max of 3.
