USA Hockey announced the names of the remaining two goalies for the PyeongChang Olympics, finalizing then the complete final roster. The retained goaltenders are David Leggio from Munich and young Brandon Maxwell form the Czech club BK Mladá Boleslav. but it is still expected that the starting number 1 goalie will be Ryan Zapolski

that's quite obvious...Zapolski is one of the best goalies outside the NHL...they would be crazy not to have him as their no.1, even if I like Maxwell a lot (I've watched him playing quite a few times in the last months between CHL and Extraliga)...

Leggio, as his family name may suggest, would be good for the Italian National team  for the USA I don't think he's anything special...

about the other rosters...

I don't know what to think about the Czechs...they heavily rely on KHL players, but almost none of them are real superstars (maybe Nakladal on defense is an above the average player...and Kovar...but he's not having a good season at all in Magnitogorsk this year)...

their best players look to be still the oldies like Cervenka and Erat...

btw, I'm very happy for Kubalik from Ambrì Piotta...

Canada...well...Canada are always a very, very dangerous team...I like the fact that they don't rely so heavily on KHL players...

moreover, they're filled up with a lot of veterans with previous NHL experience and a good mix of skilled players and hard workers...

Russia are still the main favourite (actually, I think they can only lose the Gold Medal because their usual internal conflicts, rather than the other teams could win with their best effort), but this Canadian team will be a true contender until the final whistle...

I'm also curious to see what version of "hooligan" Lapierre we're gonna see in Korea...knowing his style of play, with IIHF officials he's always on the edge...

What are you talking about, a lack of superstars? NBA legend Michal Jordán is a huge star!

I don’t think we can really predict how the tournament will go, too many unknown. The Canadian team especially is a huge question mark for me. I think the US might be the second favourite behind Russia purely because of goaltending.

US can be a dark horse if Zapolski plays the tournament of his life. Canada is a solid team, but age is a factor, most of the team is over 30 years old.

I'll wait until I see Sweden/Finland's team, but I imagine they may be the favourites against Canada/US.

I don't think age is going to be a huge disadvantage in such a short tournament. Canada only really needs to show up for 3-4 games (the pools don't matter that much and Canada can win theirs without having to play super well).

I think the team is pretty well balanced between experienced players and young talents. This should be a good mixing.

Martin Erát who is going to his 4th careers Olympics will be the Captain of the team

that's very good...

predictions are always "at risk" because of their own nature... but, as I wrote a few days ago, there's no way the US team can go that far...even if Zapolski plays the tournament of his life...

and these Canadian players are everything but unknown to us in  Europe...;)

we regularly follow them in our domestic leagues and they all are very good athletes, used to carry the load and make the difference in their club teams...I'm sure they are good enough to give all of their opponents in South Korea a lot of troubles...

surely a star-studded team like the World Cup (or the Sochi) one, would easily win the Gold Medal, but also this kind of team has quite a chance to comeback home at least with a medal...

don't expect Sweden and Finland (especially the last ones) to be so impressive without all of their NHLers...even if the 3-Kronor in "normal conditions" might (should) still be the strongest rivals of RUS and CAN for the podium places...

    • now the shooting sport takes a little Christmas break and the new season resumes in January with the Asian Championships for the Shotgun specialists ( Doha, Jan. 11th through 22nd)   the World Cup will be back in late March, beginning in  Tangiers (March 25th through April 3rd, Shotgun specialists only)   the Rifle and Pistol specialists will start their new season with the European 10m Championships in  Yerevan (Feb. 27th through March 5th) and the 1st World Cup stage for them will be in  Granada in April (5th through 13th)   300m, 25m and 50m European Champs will be in  Osijek (May 30th through June 21st), meanwhile the Shotgun European Champs will be held in  Athens from Sept. 27th through Oct. 13th

    • USA will.play in California then Seattle then California ...why hell this long distance , teams should stay in 1 place , this is tiring even for spectators
    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
