I mean, I had since she was sort of the star of the trials. But I had not heard much of her before the trials (only heard about her because of Taylor Ruck, who was seen as a bigger potential breakout star a year ago).

Yeah, I think I mentioned here before the Games that I had hopes for the Canadian ladies in one of the freestyle relays.  I though Oleksiak had chances to make some finals, too.  But that was the 'old' standard.  Just making the finals was seen as an accomplishment.  It was so hilarious how, for myself, I went from disbelief on Day 1 when they took bronze to disappointment on the last day in the pool when they didn't get a medal.  And the future looks so good with that group.

I can't find the anthem version, but here is Greg Joy's silver medal jump from Montreal.  My parents lived there at the time.  They speak of it fondly.  For some reason, this jump touched the nation at the time.

Same, I went from ecstatic with bronze in the 4x100m free to annoyed we didn't get silver in the 4x200m free to devastated we didn't win a medal in the medley relay.

I don't think anyone seriously believed Canada would get six medals, including a gold and two relays, in swimming. I was hopping for one to three and maybe one relay.

Well in consolation all athletes were drawn according to rank. So the draw is fair, but unlucky :(
