Another proof that most sport officials are completely braindead. They could have scheduled this race for earlier this day or they could have scheduled both sprints for yesterday, but instead they created a schedule that only would have worked if no race/only men's sprint had to be delayed. I guess just canceling women's pursuit/mass start doesn't matter, because it only hurts the athletes. The same has happened in ski jumping many times before. They schedule a competition as late as possible and then they are shocked when they have to cancel it because they can't postpone it. At the 2018 olympics one of the ski jumping competitions finished after midnight ...

I'm pretty sure today's sprint was scheduled so late so it didn't clash with the World Cup cross-country races in Falun. Norwegian TV probably wanted to avoid the overlap. There was no cross country yesterday so men's sprint was not affected.

Start postponed by 30 mins due to fog :coffee:

Here are the men's 2023/24 quota. Due to Russia and Belarus ban some teams obviously profited with extra quotas. On the flip side is Slovakia who had didn't even make Top 20 for the first time in XXI century @hckošice

we only have two registered active adults. thus the number of quotas is sitting and fair, we are at our right place.

Apparently the worst situation was in the middle-placed shooting ranges and the complains from teams who were zeroing there including :SVK were one of the main reason why the race was postponed for tomorrow. Our girls claimed they did not see the target at all :p

This is some of the very best news ever in cross-country skiing, something that should be adopted on a large scale!

Next thing is to somehow limit the number of skis per athlete for a competition. It is bullshit for top athletes to have the option of 40-50 pairs (!) of skis per race, that immediately neutralizes any chance anyone from any less rich nation has to ever be competitive.

Great step with the wax though! In Planica the race organizer already limited some of the resources they could bring. Like, Norway wanted to bring three equipment trucks for stuff like waxing, which is way way over the top of course, so they were only allowed to park one :d

Edit: a bit further reading, and athletes can register 2 pairs of skis for the race the day before! I guess they can still bring a gazillion and then choose 2, but still, that's a good step!

Also: it should be up to the athletes to test & choose their own skis.  No more having squads of roadies doing it for you.

Exactly. It's really not that difficult, there's the official training the day before the race to do that. Plenty of time.

Women's pursuit cancelled like expected. New bibs for the sprint and suddenly everyone goes in Group 1 again :coffee: Grotian with #71.

Too bad, but cancelling the unfair pursuit is still a way better decision than moving that one to Sunday and cancelling the mass start :d

Surprised they went for the good decision.

This time with some more noticeable changes.   Ice Hockey: Women's semifinals moved from the Rho Arena to the Santa Giulia Arena Women's gold medal game moved up to a 19:10 start time (was previous 20:10)   Speed Skating: Most of the events have had their session cut by somewhere between 5 and 30 minutes. Start times remain the same   Figure Skating: Looks like the order of events in team event is now: Ice Dance -> Pairs -> Women. Women were previously listed first.   Alpine Skiing: Downhill portion of the team combined cut by 45 minutes 1st Run of the Giant Slalom and Slalom events cut by 30 minutes   Ski Mountaineering: Sprint heats extended by 8 minutes. Finals session extended by 13 minutes   Ski Jumping: All sessions shortened by 5 to 15 minutes
