When it's about cross-country (and related biathlon), you can be sure it's only sons and daughters of Brazilians in Brazil...in other words, the entirely average Brazilian :p Or, better: those dominate these sports in Brazil. There do happen to be two young guys - one based in Austria and another in Spain - but they are exceptions in this case.

I find it interesting Brazil has pretty much two winter sports federations: one for snow, one for ice :d I'll refrain on commenting on them in terms of the work :p

Not that uncommon I’m beginning to find out. It seems like quite a few countries have just gone with umbrella snow sport and ice sport federations. It’s mostly the traditional countries that have separate federations.

And biathlon.

Dammit that’s the first sport I thought of, and then somehow skipped. Yes, that should also certainly be an the hypothetical program.

In Spain we also have only 2 federations (ice and snow) because individually, winter sports do not have enough licenses to create independent federations. In fact, there are several sports without a single participant right now (bobsleigh, luge, ski jumping and nordic combined).

Well technically bobsleigh has a Skeleton athlete. I don’t think there’s even any Ski Jumping hills in Spain...?

In Italy too we have only 2 federations, with the same 2 division, but i guess that here it's a political choice

In the US we have: US Ski & Snowboard, USA Biathlon, US Figure Skating Association, US Speed Skating, US Bobsleigh and Skeleton, USA Luge, US Hockey, USA Curling, USA Mountaineering and Ice Climbing, and USA All Terrain Skating. All those are separate federations responsible for their sport(s) only.

Well, if you consider bobsleigh and skeleton as a single sport, then yes. In fact, our single skeleton athlete (Ander Mirambell) is training a team of 2 boys and 2 girls to assure that Spain will still have representation once he is retired. Furthermore, we also have one athlete in para-bobsleigh (I'm not sure if he is still active, but he was last year).

Ski jumping is a very curious case in Spain. Back in the 1970/80s the Four Hills Tournament was a success on TV, we had like 3/4 hills and we participated with some athletes at Sarajevo 1984, but suddenly everybody lost interest in the sport and the hills were closed.

Yeah Brazil, Chile, and Argentina have done really well to qualify record participation in a winter event this time around. PanAm Sports really do need to consider bringing the winter games back. We could easily have Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating, Curling, Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Freestyle Skiing, and Snowboard

And ice hockey too. Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia and Mexico sent teams to the Pan American Ice Hockey Tournament when it existed. The US and Jamaica are also members of IIHF, so we can have 8 teams in the tournament pretty much like any team sport at the (Summer) Pan American Games.

    • Heraskevyvh is very good in this season. He did worse last season. Our team is unfortunately doing much worse now.    In luge, unfortunately, it`s difficult to break the dominance of Germany, Austria and Latvia. The USA has also made a lot of progress. I have also read that Russia may return under a neutral banner, so I don`t think we will win a medal in Cortina 2026. The only hope is that we will use our knowledge of the new track in Cortina and then maybe we will win a one medal, maybe in the women's doubles. Unfortunately, we don`t have a star like Armin Zoeggeler as before.

    • I still remember how Demi Moore swept the Razzies for Striptease almost 30 years ago and she won Golden Globes now? The acting industry must be short on talent, scripts or everything else   This being said I don't really watch too many new TV shows these days least of all those Marvel/DC action hero stuff that has taken over in the last decade plus. I know it's a box office gold mine but completely not my taste.
    • Yeah, Anora has been really hard for me to place in my personal rankings. It's a fun and enjoyable film for the most part, but it didn't quite generate the same awe or excitement from me that a few others have this season. Still, I was quite shocked to see Madison lose yesterday because she did a deliver a phenomenal performance in my opinion.    The best actress "race" still feels rather open to me, which adds a bit of suspense to each body's nominations.
    • Anyone remember that  athlete in a European Champs who was given a false start, then protested and got a re-run?  And then false-started twice.   Was kind of like that.
    • Justin Trudeau has resigned as party leader and will resign as prime minister of Canada once the Liberal Party choses a new leader. Once a new leader in selected there will likely be elections shortly after.
    • I'm not surprised. Colturi seems to be trending in the right direction (duh) and the rest of the Italian women's team is nowhere except veterans Brignone and Goggia. The Delagos have regressed badly for whatever reason and even Bassino has kinda stalled despite still being in her prime. The shit will soon hit the fan but it's probably to late before the next OG. It would be ridiculous if Albania wins more medals in alpine skiing than Italy
    • The regular season is over. Tennesse Titans get #1 overall pick for the 2025 draft after NE Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills back-ups on the last day.   Mike Evans (Buccaneers) ended his 11th season with 11th mark of 1,000 receiving yards which ties Jerry Rice's all-time record. Bucs needed to run one more play to get him 5 yards he needed instead of kneeling down a game they had won already.   Wild Card Schedule:   My picks: Chargers, Ravens, Bills, Eagles, Commanders, Vikings
